REWRITTEN Musty city council records dating back to the beginning of Ogden will be transcribed and placed in a loose leaf book for safekeeping if commissioners are able to find enough money in their 1910 budget to cover the cost The original records done with ink and pen are falling apart- as noted by City Recorder Ella O'N Ballantyne In the staff photo The Utah historical records survey professional branch of the WPA hag offered to undertake the project if city commissioners will sponsor it Commissioners said they will know within the next few days whether the project can be set up i iveryorsie Wants Sport Goods Cfonstinnias Request that they be allowed to withdraw from the county weed program and take over weed eradication work on a 30 acre piece of land near North Ogden had been made to county commissioners today by Mr and Mrs Qua Unander who expressed dissatisfaction with the county's work on their property during the last five years Officials said the question of the Unander withdrawal looms as an important one as it may set a precedent However few if any other such requests are expected because with the county paying half the eradication costs it is believed owners cannot do the work as cheaply themselves Commissioner Arrington was appointed to arrange a time for a meeting between the full Weber county weed committee and Mr and Mrs Unander after the latter charged five years of county weed work had left white top on their property "worse than ever" Payment for Grain Mr and Mrs Unander also asked that they be compensated for about seven acres of wheat which county workers plowed up at the start of the program five years ago because it was weed-infested They also asked that a fence along one side of their property be replaced County crews removed this to facilitate weed eradication work they said The land has been idle during the five years of weed work by the county they stated Unander who is employed by the city fire department said taxes on the tract were $693 for 1939 while the assessment for the weed work by the county was $104 This is half the total cost of $208 in 1939 the other half being paid by the county Stalling Explains George Stallings county weed supervisor who was called by commissioners to confer with the Unanders agreed the elimination of weed3 on their property under the program he directs had been slowed up This was caused he said by a "multitude of difficulties" including adverse weather which interrupted the county program on this particular tract Stallings indicated he had no objection to the Unanders taking over their own weed work providing the county could step in again if the owners did not do the work properly County commissioners also indicated such an arrangement would be satisfactory with them Frequent Plowing Mr and Mrs Unander said their purpose in asking to assume the work was to rid their land of weeds by plowing up the roots so they can again put it to productive use and avoid paying out annual weed eradication assessments Officials said it is necessary to plow or disc a white-top infested field every 10 days or two weeks Child's Clamp Skate Boys' Hockey Skate
