"There are a couple of options. However, in the meantime until a solution is found, we've decided to compromise and sign on at 4 p.m." The schedule chance means most of the English-language be "Heathcliff," another English-language animated cartoon.

At 5 p.m. "Machikado TV 1100." a karaoke music program now aired at noon, takes over followed by "Chiharuko." a Japanese drama now seen at 12:30 p.m. "I Want to Forget" Wa a Japanese drama now at 1 p.m.. will move to 6 p.m. The balance of the programming remains the same.

With the exception of same-day news broadcasts from Japan, KHAI Japanese programming has English subtitles. Dianne Conrad, Star-Bulletin Writer from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Viewers do not nave to have cable to receive KHAI. It appears on channel 20 of TV sets equipped to receive UHF ultra high frequency stations and that are not hooked up to cable.

However, the range of the station's signal is limited. Feeding the signal to TV sets by cable enables a wider audience to receive the station. Oceanic feeds all Oahu cable homes but those on Hlckam Air Force Base and in the Hawaii Kai area, making it the major source for KHAI. (McCaw Cable-vision feeds Hawaii Kai-area homes and carries KHAI on channel 7 from the start of its broadcast day.) "We are engaged in dialog with Oceanic to try to find a way that's compatible for both of us, to allow our expansion That description could fit "Death of a Salesman," the powerhouse drama that repeats at 7 tonight on KGMB, Channel 9. But surprisingly, it also fits the "Cheers" episode at 8 p.m.

on KHON, Channel 2. If you haven't seen "Death of a Salesman," by all means catch it tonight. Here is Arthur Miller's richly written drama, considered by some to be the great American play. Here is Dustin Hoffman, this country's finest actor, in the lead. If not "Salesman," then see how tonight's "Cheers" has some of those same splendid traits.

"Cheers" insights into the strut-' tings of the male world are extraordinary. Mike Hughes Gannett News Service. movies and Laurel and Hardy are on hiatus, he said. Eventually, however, KHAI hopes to become an all ethnic station, he said. KHAI believes it fills a need, particularly in the elderly Japanese community, for afternoon Japanese programming, he said.

'That's their entertainment dur-. ing the day. There was a gap in programming for this audience and we wanted to fill it." "We hope an equitable solution can be reached where Oceanic can meet its obligation to Discovery and we can help service that portion of. the community as well. We feel we're proving in the (Nielsen! ratings that we were meeting those needs," Fuchs said.

But, Fuchs says, they are not gone forever.

The It is a story of a man losing his war against time, of someone who finds his life will never match his dreams. It is tenderly written and neatly played, with a poignant finish. Setting a Bad Example nn O-J I Pi i J-v i i wood burning continues for 24 hours a day all winter long, and the inside of my house constantly smells of burning wood. My eyes burn, my nose is stuffy, and my sinuses hurt. Wood burning is allowed in this township, so I was advised to speak to my neighbors about this annoyance.

I even offered to pay them 500 a winter not to burn wood, but they told me they didn't want the money. 1 tried to seal my house up to keep the odor out, but it creeps in anyway. I can't afford to move, and I'm uncomfortable with things as they are, so what do you advise? DREADING WINTER DEAR DREADING: Because an activity is permitted by law does not make it moral, ethical, or acceptable. One's conduct should be guided by consideration for others and a sense of fairness. Obviously, if you can't afford to move, you can't afford to sue your neighbors for imposing noxious fumes on you.

Pity. It appears that you are at the mercy of selfish and unfeeling neighbors. Mm ABBY: We live in a highly desirable section of town. Afew years ago when our oeichbor's little boy was 3, 1 ob-sefred his father teaching him to'rtlieve himself off the side of thfcir house! He's 7 now, and he's, still urinating outside whenever he feels like it. (In the winter it's freezing cold here, hut-that doesn't seem to matter.) JV have a daughter (now 8) who has been taught to come into the house to use the bathroom.

She knows that urinating oujtside in public is nasty, unsanitary ana ill-mannered. These same neighbors have a 4-year-old girl who is following lather big brother's footsteps. Otjr-son. just turned 3, sees thesi kids pottying in the yard, ami now he's doing it. Idealize that the neighbors ha( a right to do whatever thfwant on their own proper-tyi-tut it's setting a terrible exapinle for our children.

The ne)tfibors across the street are also; upset about this because th children play over here. Wta( can we do? Please don't mention our town or name, as this! family is pretty good at thawing eggs, too.
