2C SUN-SENTINEL, Saturday, Julv 2, 1966 FORT LAUDERDALE iNEWS AND Oncc-in-a-Lifetime San Remo Gives Hearty Welcome To Floridians Opportunity! RIGHT ON THE OCEAN! 2 BEDROOMS, 2 BATHS 13,400 rfvjn GLENN H0FFER I Lit I News Building Editor Italians are noted the world over for their strong voiced tenors, tasty spaghetti, and for enthusiastically pinching their ladies on the aft side. But they're masters, too, at throwing out the "welcome mat." That's the discovery made last weekend by Boca Raton Mayor Robert Honchell, builder-developer James E. Nail of Ft. Lauderdale, their wives, and yours truly when we savored a sumptuous serving of Italian hospitality ala San Remo. Our visit to the picturesque Italian Riviera resort city of San Remo added further strength to the belief that the "people to people" method is still by far the best approach towards creating international goodwill and building friendships that know no borders.

Hosted by San Remo's congenial Mayor Eraldo Cugge, our group was constantly "on the go" enjoying an excursion into the nearby mountains, sojourns into the fascinating old and new sections of Sam Remo, an inside look at the city's apartment offerings, and feasting heartily on foods typical of that European country. FLAQl'ES, FLAG ARE PRESENTED And at ceremonies in San Remo's plush city hall, Boca Raton's mayor who seemed to make friends with Italy's animal world as easily as with its people presented our host with a plaque carrying the seal of the State of Florida, and extended an invitation to the San Remo official to visit Boca Raton. A message from Gov. Haydon Burns, inviting Mayor Cugge to see the Sunshine State, was also delivered. (The official is expected to come here in the fall of this year.) At the same time, Mayor Honchell accepted a plaque and flag both carrying the colorful crest of San Remo on behalf of the City of Boca Raton.

In addition to promoting goodwill between the resort areas of Boca Raton and San Remo, the visit was designed to heln Nail, president of the Investment Corp. of America, to gather ideas that could be incorporated into his company's new 320-unit condominium apartment complex in Boca Raton. Named San Remo, the development will be fashioned so as to include many of the decor and design characteristics typical of the popular Riviera resort city of some 65,000 people. After a few days in San Remo, it appeared that Nail had successfully accomplished this objective of his trip. "With the ideas I've acquired, I am sure we'll be able to inject an even more authentic Italian San Remo flavor into our Boca Raton condominium," Nail pointed out.

"Of course, we'll never be able to duplicate the hills and terraces that characterize this city," he added, although it had been suggested by one wit that he might try piling up "hills" of dredged soil here and there around his 13-acre development. Nail and Honchell and their wives were due to conclude their San Remo stay the past Wednesday, and will return to Florida after brief trips of their own to other parts of Europe the Honchells continuing on to Spain and Portugal, and the Nails taking in a little more of Italy. 5650 DOWN PAYMENT ni iTipmOTmryiwwr i I I HABLA ESPANOL, SIGNORA? Some unforgettable moments on the Riviera: While in a discussion with some real estate people, I discovered that an attractive Italian lady in the group was able to speak Spanish as well as English, French and her own language. Always eager to practice my Spanish, I engaged her in a brief conversation in that language. "You know something," she said, "you speak better Spanish than English!" While our car was passing another one along the sharply curving two-lane seaside highway east of San Remo in a burst of speed, I looked over to the side, and much to my surprise, saw a third car passing us.

Now I know how those drivers in the Le Mans races must feel. My stomach said it was more like a dinner, but my hosts called the hearty meal of a couple hours which we had up in the mountains north of San Remo merely a lunch. The main course of rabbit and goat followed several Italian specialties. There was lots of wine, and dessert, too. As I downed my dessert, I was wondering how i would ever be able -to find space for an Italian "dinner." But I did.

And, finally, an unforgettably unforgettable moment: The curvaceous bikini-clad cuties on the beach in Nice, capital of the French Riviera, which kept me repeating like a defective record: "Fantastic fantastic fantastic! 1 () THAT'S RIGHT, $650 DOWN is all it takes for a qualified buyer to move info one of the finest, new, two- bedroom two-bath Oceanfront apartments in exclusive Hillsboro Beach!
