summary of the Ogden livestock market for week ended Friday October 15: CATTLE AND CALVES: The market made a fairly slow start at prices which looked about even with last late lower close Receipts numbered 3165 head as against 5151 a week ago and 3973 a year ago The early decline last week was followed by a further drop near the close especially on the steer and cow offerings Good steers were too scarce in this early arrivals to establish uotations in- their line and good heifers were not very plentiful Other classes showed average ual-ity The supply of common and medium steers went mostly at 600-800 with odd lots of rough plain dairy types around 575 down Close to 100 head of medium to good' local heifers were trailed in at 650-750 a nda car of Idahos also made the 750 figure Some of the driveins came in load-sized lots and one car of 773 lb Vtahs brought 660 a common driveins rated at 600 down A car of good Idaho cows went at 595 and 2 loads of Utahs at 575 The Utahs were sorted 3 head to car at 475 Common to medium driveins cashed for 450-550 and the two cutter grades at 275-425 Bulls rated at 475-575 and good vealers at 850-900 Common and medium veal calves brought 500- 750 HOGS: The hog market again followed the downward course of the past few weeks but late prices were off only slightly from the close of a week ago Altho the late trading was not on a finished basis due to some higher asking prices sales of light and medium weight butchers were made at 10-10-1025 and mixed offerings at 1000 dpwn to 925 and under Packing sows were valued at 700-825 SHEEP: Receipts in the sheep division this week totaled 17686 head compared with 22924 last week and 24982 last year A little improvement in uality on the best lambs was shown but prices were about on a steady basis One good trucked in lot numbering 102 head and averaging 89 lbs rated at 910 Smaller lots in the truck division went mostly at 835 to 885 with a few down to 800 A few lots of feeders brought 725-775 A car of 60 lb California feeders made 850 A few lots of good light yearlings went at '600-650 with some plain and medium grinds at 400-550 A truck load of 125 lb local ewes moved at 385 and a few smaller
