Sometime early next year, KITV's present 371-foot transmitter antenna will be dismantled and replaced by an 100-foot antenna atop the Ala Moana Hotel. The new mast, which will be put in place by helicopters, will cost "more than $200,000," according to the station. Because the hotel is 400 feet tall, the top of the antenna will be 500 feet above the street. The most notable change will be an improvement of KITV's service in the Waikiki area where K1TV viewers have had problems ever since the construction of the condominium at 1350 Ala Moana, which is between KITV's present antenna and Waikiki. KHON's present antenna is 359 feet tall; KGMB's is 438.

Each works in a windowless room so small and so full of equipment that submarine sailors would plead to be let out.

Many DJs must stand all the time they are on the air and their hands must be better than their voices. There is never a moment when there is no button to push, no cassette to select or no record to cue- up. But the worst part of the job must be the occasional feeling that you are talking to yourself. And can you imagine listening to four hours of Christmas carols in an empty building. I'd never make it as a DJ.
