By BOB FREUND New Amusement Editor) "The Thrill of it All" just about the best comedy turned out by Hollywood since the resurgence of that art in the last two yean. It has wonderful male-female dialogue, an expert cast of farceurs topped by the bounli-f 1 Doris Day, who has finally cast off her longtime virginal status, and turns up as a mar ried woman in this colorful frolic. Carl Reiner has whipped up a script that bubbles throughout, and since the film deals with the soap industry, he couldn't have hit on a happier suds level.

No soap opera this, but a devastating satire on soap and detergent commercials. Miss Day is the contented wife of doctor James Garner. At a dinner party she mouths of few simple platitudes on the Jory of her host's product, and the old geezer thinks she's just right to do his commercials. Well, Doris' commercials are the very end in natural and tingrammatical uttering, and send everybody in the company into a izzy. Not the boss, though.

He still thinks she's just right, and the public agrees with him. Her doctor hubby, thinking this is just a whim, finds his life turned upside down, his marriage in danger, and his wife a national billboard per sonality. Her sponsor can't do enough for her. He has grown both as actor and farceur, and contributes mightily to the overall excellence of "The Thrill of It All."
