By David Shapiro "i; Gannett News Service WASHINGTON The Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has blown the Hawaii-Mainland travel market wide open by granting 15 airlines new non-stop routes between Hawaii and six 'major metropolitan areas in California and the Midwest. Areas ,eligible for the new Hawaii service under the ruling are Los Angeles-Ontario-Long Beach, San Diego. San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas City. Hawaiian Air was a big winner in the route decision, winning authority to fly to all six of the metropolitan areas covered by the order. Other smaller carriers that received new Hawaii routes are Ozark, PSA, Trans Carib Air, World and Trans International. 5lajor airlines that were granted new or expanded Hawaii routes by the CAB included American, Braniff. Continental, Delta, Eastern. National. Northwest. TWA and Western. The broad Hawaii route awards were part of recent efforts by the CAB to increase competition among U.S. airlines. The awards are "permissive." meaning that airlines are not forced to start service on their ne''v routes. Specific awards, besides Hawaiian Air, included routes to Hawaii from these points: AN1ERICAN: Los Angeles-Ontario. Sale of Las Vegas Hotels Stirs Legal Controversy LAS VEGAS, Nev.
