1 1 1 in in For help in solving problems, Kokua cutting red tape and Line answering Telephone questions: 525-8686 or writer Kokuo Line, Box 3080, By Harriet Gee Honolulu, Hi 96802 Will the Marines be collecting toys under the Toys for Tots program again this year? If so, where can we drop off toys? A The 32nd annual collection of toys by the Marines of the 4th Reconnaissance Company, "'Hawall's Own," has already begun so that the Christmas season will be a brighter one for the needy children of Oahu. Only new or slightly used toys are being accepted because the Marines do not have enough time or financial resources to repair the many toys contributed. There are many ways you, as concerned individual or organization, can collect toys. One of the most popular and productive ways is by holding a Christmas party with a "Toys for Tots" theme. The Marines will provide party posters and toy collection barrels for those interested.

Call the Marines at 471-0202 for more information. The traditional practice of placing such barrels throughout the communities will be partially discontinued. The energy crunch can hit Santa's helpers just as well as anyone else. Most of the toys collected from these barrels also were beyond repair. Toys can be dropped off at the Navy Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, 530 Peltier near Honolulu Airport, Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m. Also serving as collection centers are the Digital Equipment Co. in the Gold Bond Building, Suite 608; and all Luke Luke Realty Inc. offices on Oahu and in Lahaina, Maui. The Luke offices are at 1720 Kalakaua 98-1238 Kaahumanu Suite 402, Pearl City; 6650 Hawaii Kai Drive, Suite 105; 602 Kailua Road, Suites 202 and 206; and at 277 Wiliko Place, Suite 33, Lahaina, Maui.

Cash contributions cannot be accepted. Donations by checks made payable to "'The Toys for Tots will be accepted. Mail them to the Peltier Avenue address. Toys will be distributed just before Christmas at the Reserve Training Center. The Volunteer Service Bureau will determine who is eligible to receive toys.

There will be a "Toys for Tots' Fun Run" Sunday from Kapiolani Park to Kahala Mall and back, co-sponsored by the Honolulu Marathon Clinic. Each runner is asked to donate an inexpensive new toy as the registration fee. Registration begins at 6 a.m. at Kapiolani Park; the run starts at 7:30 a.m. Do we still have to pay the city our sewer fees during the period the United Public Workers! strike is on? I don't think we should because we don't have service from the UPW strikers.

A Yes, you'll still have to pay sewer fees because the sewers are flowing and working, a city official told Mrs. K. For those who are having cesspool problems, the city advises them to call private plumbers. They are not being cheated out of free city service. Even before the strike, the city billed the homeowner after a UPW member working for the city fixed the cesspool.

The house I'm renting in Wahiawa has had a busted sewer line for more than two weeks. The raw sewage is in front of our driveway and house, creating a terrible smell and health hazard. I'm afraid the kids around here might get sick because of this. Can you help us fix this problem? Everyone we've talked to so far has told us we have to wait until the strike is over. Heaven knows how long that will be.

A The city recommends that you call a private plumber to fix your sewer line. If you feel you have been damaged, settle it with the city later. Auwe who dump garbage on the road to the Kailua Dump are nothing but pigs. Police should either patrol this section or put an officer in the area so he could see the pig dumping garbage. Then this pig should be treated like a Mahalo "Leeward Community College still remains open during the UPW strike and is functioning as well as can be expected.

Mahalo to the instructors for diligently continuing to give us a fine education in spite of the strike. Also, a warm and grateful lo to the strikers for letting the students go through without hassle. We appreciate this and respect and support you." Thursday, November 15, 1979 Honolulu Star-Bulletin A-3 But Can't Identify Defendants Navy Wife Describes Payroll Robbery By Jim McCoy Star-Bulletin Writer A Navy wife who provided the key to the arrests of four men charged in the August heist of a 847,500 Navy payroll yesterday in federal court described what she saw on the day of the incident. But she testified she couldn't identify any of the defendants.

The jury trial of two of the four defendantsBradley K. Frazen, 20, and Timothy Bell, 20, began yesterday before visiting federal Judge William Enright. The two others already have pleaded guilty. Beverly Herr of Allamanu testified that on the morning of Aug. 29 she saw a man approach two Navy payroll officers outside the Pearl Harbor branch of Bank of Hawaii on Bougainville Drive.

Herr, who was sitting in her car while her mother was banking inside, said the forced his way into the Navy car used by payroll officers and pushed the head of one of the payroll officers down. The car with three men then drove off, she said. HERR SAID SHE THEN FOLLOWED the Navy vehicle in her car for several blocks until the Winter Flu Season Began in July Here Winter flu came four months early to Hawaii this year, with sporadic outbreaks of Influenza reported here since July, said Dr. Ned Wiebenga, chief of the state Department of Health's branch of epidemiology. "There has not been a tremendous number of reported (flu) cases, and Influenza is not normally epidemic," Wiebenga said.

He was responding to reports from the Center for Disease Control that several strains of influenza are circulating worldwide, including in Hawali. The center said Russian flu and Texas which are types of Influenza A and Influenza have been reported this year, but not in the continental United States. The flu season in this country generally begins in late November or early December, but in Hawail this year, it was first seen in July, Wiebenga said.
