class and term basis swftched' to the "phase" jsystem Under' this plan a department of the school can start a group of students every six days taking a new group into the firsts phase as the old group advances to the second phase and can handle eight times as many students as under the old system A second advantage is that a man forced to be absentfrom classes for several days by illness or a call home can pick up his work where he left off by joining the new group in his phase' A psychological advantage of the phase system is that the student is advanced from mastery of one i simple thing to study of another simple aspect of his work He learns l- quickly and easily and gains confidence He is con- fronted by the whole which would terrify him at the until he has completed his cbwse Then he discovers he has masteYi a specialty But the army continued to grow and production of armoreA-equip-ment mountectand the commandant was faced once more with need for a speed-up in production of
