FORT LAUDERDALE NEWS AND SUN-SENTINEL, Sunday, Nov. 12, 1961 Minnesota Raps Iowa ID nrdiie Posts'. 9 Dse Fizzle Two Late TD's Settle Issue Spartans Hit With 7-6 Loss But Win, 16-7 iW8 1. Florida 71-0 Victor TALLAIHSSEE. (J -Florida ASM University, showing off a crushing ground attack, routed Allen University of Columbia S.C., 71-0, Saturday.

Allen's defense held the rampaging Rattlers pretty well in check for the first period, but after that the game was hardly a contest. The Rattlers, with three squads of almost equal ability, mixed in passes with their running plays for a game total of 347 yards, including 128 yards and three touchdowns from passes. Allen got 69 yards in the air but was held to six yards rushing. Oklahoma's Po wer Tops Mizzou, 7-0 COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP)-Okla-homa's Sooners flashed bits of their old-time power Saturday and struck through the air for a 7-0 upset over Missouri's 10th-rated Tigers.

The Sooners won their first game last week after dropping Bobby Bell led the slashing Minnesota defense which kept alive the Gophers' hopes for national honors and left them tied for the Big Ten football lead with Ohio State with a 5-0 conference record. Minnesota led going into the fourth quarter on Tom Loechler's 26-yard field goal. Then an intercepted pass and a blocked punt provided Gopher scores which sent Iowa to its third straight loss, longest Hawkeye losing streak in nine years. After an intercepted pass gave the Gophers the ball on Iowa's 39, quarterback Sandy Stephens on the next play threw a touchdown pass to Bill Munsey. PUNT BLOCKED Three minutes later Enga blocked an Iowa punt and end John Campbell covered the ball in the end zone to push the Gophers in front 16-2.

The Hawkeyes, who got a safety in the first quarter when Minnesota's Bob Frisbee intercepted a pass and then ran into the end zone as he was tackled, scored its only touchdown with 3 seconds left. End Cloyd Webb took a 33-yard pass from Matt Szykowny for the score. PURDUE'S TOM BORIS (21) LOSES BALL Don Underwood (59) recovered for State Giants, Bears Extinction In tl them a two-game bulge with only five games remaining. Chicago, (5-3) is host to the Green Bay Packers (6-2), front runners in the Western Conference. A Packer triumph would assure Green Bay of emerging with at least a 1-game advantage and could dump the Bears all the way down into fifth place in the West, depending on the outcome of other contests.

Elsewhere in the West, the San Francisco 49ers (4-3-1), tied with the Detroit Lions for third, invade Los Angeles (2-6) and the Baltimore Colts (44), who bumped off the hot Packers a week ago, visit the Minnesota Vikings (1-7). The Lions have an inter-conference engagement against the Cardinals (4-4) in St. Louis. Cleveland's Browns (5-3), clinging to third place in the East, move into Washington to face the luckless Redskins (0-8) and the Dallas Cowbovs (4-4) and tied 1 .1 9 for their touchdown late in the second quarter and drove to the Ohio State 10 in the fourth quarter in a bid to make it a contest again. Van Raaphorst broke the scoreless deadlock by kicking a 40-yard field goal with 7:43 to play in the second quarter.

An Indiana fumble on the second play after the next kickoff opened the door, and the Bucks went 23 yards in five plays. PAYOFF PASS The payoff was a five-yard pass from Sparma to Paul Warfield. Sparma threw the clincher in the third quarter, a 9-yarder that Charles Bryant took on the run in the corner of the end zone. Van Raaphorst converted. Indiana's offense was a thing of beauty on its scoring sequence in the second quarter.

Chuck Fawcett returned a kickoff 34 yards to the Indiana 49, and a 5-yard penalty and four plays put the Hoosiers on the scoreboard. Byron Broome passed 25 yards to Bill Olsavsky in the end zone for the touchdown, and Luke George converted. (AP) Ohio State's running game sputtered in low gear against Indiana's stout defense in payoff territory, but Joe Sparma's touchdown passes and Dick van Raap-horst's kicks pulled the Buckeyes through 16-7 Saturday. San Diego could lose and still win the championship if Dallas is beaten by Buffalo. The Houston-Boston battle at Houston is quite different from last year when the Oilers were running away with the division championship and Boston was running last. Boston relieved Lou Saban as head coach just before playing a 31-31 tie with Houston. Then Lou Rymkus was fired as Houston coach.

Three previous games between the two teams ended in a draw.

TD PASS PLAY Navy scored its lone touchdown in the second period on a 56-yard pass play, Bruce Abel to Allen Hughes, and added a field goal in the third when Greg Mather booted his ninth of the season from 32 yards away. The Giants, with six victories and two losses, tangle in New York with the pace-setting Philadelphia Eagles in the Eastern Conference. The Eagles are 7-1 and a victory over the Giants would give for the first touchdown, then Coach Sonny Grandelius sent in his second team, a move that incensed the Utes. They promptly boomed 66 yards in seven plays and quarterback Dennis Mc Laughlin's conversion gave them the lead 7-6.

Utah kept pouring it on, even on the Colorado first stringers, and led 21-6 with four minutes left. Then quarterback Gale Weid-ner completed a 78-yard pass play to halfback Leon Mavity for Colorado's second touchdown. Weidner's run for a two-point conversion was stopped short. Utah ran its lead to 14-8 in the second quarter when guard Ronald Manno intercepted a Colorado pass and returned it 28 yards to the Colorado 41. Gordy Lee's 25-yard sprint and a 14-yard pass from Gary Hertzfeldt to end Marv Leming were the big gainers in the touchdown march.

The Utes took the second half kickoff 77 yards in 16 plays for their third score. Hertzfeldt completed three passes to Fleming, covering 27 yards on the march. Jesse Branch ended the 56-yard surge by scoring through the middle from the eight.
