Douglas discovered that she bad cancer about seven years ago, and bad surgery at that time. The cancer recurred three years ago, and she entered the hospital a week ago, Stevens said. She said Mrs. Douglas would be cremated, and a memorial service would be held at a later date. A STAGE STAR and international concert singer, Mrs.

Douglas used her maiden name profits-atonally. She had served three terms as a Democrat in the House when she decided to run for the Senate in 1950.
