"Some day men will read about the Indochina war with the same disbelief that we feel about World War I.

The Haigs and the Kitcheners will all be there, the pointless savagery, the jingo commentators glorying in other people's bloodshed, the self-deception." John Hunt, a professor of genetics and one of the stars of "Lovely War," says: "This play tells about the horrors of war and the exploitation of the common man, but it makes the audience laugh while it makes them think. It's both great fun and very meaningful theater." IT'S THE BEST AMERICAN FILM I'VE SEEN THIS YEAR! It comes as close to being an epic human comedy as Hollywood has ever made! Alan Arkin as Yossarian provides the film with its continuity and dominant style Arkin is a deadly serious actor, he projects intelligence with such mono-maniacal intensity, he is both funny and heroic at the same time. Nichols remains, as he was before, one of our finest directors." "IT'S ONE HELL OF A FILM! A COLD, SAVAGE AND CHILLING COMEDY! Firmly establishes Nichols' place in the front rank of American directors." bruce wiluamson. playboy "Viewing Arkin is like watching lew Alcindor sink baskets or Bobby Fischer play chess. A virtuoso player entering his richest period! A triumphant performance!" -tmemagne ising to be first-class enter- tainment.

Manoa's drama and music departments joined forces and spent the past three months perfecting production of this play which takes a jaundiced view of all wars in general through a musical scrutiny of World War I. Performances, starting at 8 p.m., will be presented tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday and March 5, 6, and 7. A 2 p.m. matinee is scheduled for March 6. Tickets (S3 general admission, $1,50 for students) are available at the Kennedy Theater box office.

For more information, call 944-8740. ELEVEN GIRLS and nine men sing and dance their way through the trenches of Germany and France under the direction of Glenn Cannon the man responsible for "Coriolanus" and "Arms and the Man" at Kennedy. William Pfeiffer, assistant chairman of the music department, is musical director. Carl WoLz is choreographer he is the man who received history's cheapest sex change when a release from the University Theater slipped an "0" into his first name and the Star-Bulletin obligingly picked up "Carol" in a story on Tuesday. Floyd Uchima conducts a 10-piece band all students which sounds just great in the ragtime-Broadway-folk-song- Roaring Twenties score.

THE CAST includes Dreena Kane, Dolores Springer, John Hunt, Roberta Lim, Lloyd Wood, Lei-Lynne Doo, Susan Cutting, Kim Beasley, Leonard Kas-parovich, Ninette Mordaunt. Written in the style of an English music hall show, the play uses slides, projected titles, multi-media tools in addition to 40 musical numbers to tell the story of the Great War. As for the message, Anthony Lewis of the New York Times summed it up in a recent story from London: "IT IS ALWAYS easier to see these things historically.
