Aaronic priesthood will be given in the Fourteenth ward chapel Sunday at six Members of the Aaronic priesthood will participate on the program All members of the ward are invited Immediately after the meeting the monthly meeting of the ward military-missionary group will-be held in the Relief society room All parents and wives of men in the armed services are invited Lee Palmer Will Speak Sunday Lee Palmer of the I presiding office will he the speaker at the Twenty-eighth ward Sunday at seven-thirty The program will be presented in observance of the 114th anniversary of the restoration of the of the Cache national forest announced today that the Snow Basin picnic area will be open and ready for use on Sunday May 23 "The 25 picnic spots available are ready to said -Supervisor Stewart "and we hope to be able to make further developments during the summer The WPB has approved the Installation of additional camp and sanitary facilities and these will be installed as fast as the labor recreation area clean and GEORGE STALLINGS Assists In Campaign Reported "missing in action since January is Lieut George Rose son of Mrs Clara Rose of Farmington and brother of Mrs Hortense Beers of 1717 Twenty fourth teacher at Lincoln school The news was received in a telegram from the commanding general of the southwest Pacific area Lieut Rose was born July 12 1915 a son of Bishop Armond Rose and Clara San- Rose He graduated from Rose Davis high school and attended the University of Utah where he was a member of Sigma Pi fraternity Prior to entering the air corps on May 6 1941 he was employed by the Crane Co in Ogden He received his commission as a bomber pilot at Luke field Ariz Dec 12 1941 as one of the three highest in his class and was pro motedto first lieutenant in September 1942 at March field Calif He had been serving in the southwest Pacific area near Guadalcanal He has five brothers and sisters Mrs Beers of Ogden Mrs Middleton of Salt Lake City Emily Rose of Farmington Mrs LaMar Bennett of New York City and Stephen A Rose of Portland Oregon An invitation was extended today to the public to attend commence ment services of the Ogden high school graduating class Sunday May 23 at ten-thirty a in the school auditorium No tickets are needed The speaker will be Pres ident LeRoy Cowles University of Utah Graduates are requested to be at the school at ten a Irrigation System Headgates Weber county draglines were busy today freeing headgates of five major irrigation canals from strangulation at the hands of an eccentric gravel bar said McEntire county commissioner The heavy equipment was taken from road maintenance work when it' was learned that tons of gravel had been loosened by state operations in the upper reaches of the Weber'Hver and floating bars were clogging headgates along the canal system--'- i- Mr McEntire said gravel became lodged in the headgates of the Hooper Wilson Warren Plain City and Slaterville canals Use of the draglines became necessary when thousands of dollars worth of crops were threatened The county has also assisted In cleaning ditches and canals of hill-ground which was brought into the valley by the swift currents of the river' Shortage of manpower has prompted the county to take steps to keep the waterways open adjacent to the above named canals and the Mountain and Peter Jensen canals in Ogden valley the commissioner said Nineteenth Ward Program Readied The Nineteenth ward Thirtieth and Wall will hold regular Sunday evening services featuring Alva Scoville guest speaker Musical program will fruit exchange Harvey Rich employment service Seriousness of Scarcity Discussed During Meeting A discussion of the seriousness of the farm labor shortage was conducted at a meeting of the Weber county labor committee Friday evening In the forest service auditorium A course of action was outlined to mobilize farm and canning factory help It was pointed out that farmers would be forced to meet the high wages paid at war bases and industries in order to compete for labor A Christiansen county agent announced that George Stallings of Eden will assist him in the farm labor program Recent orders from the secretary of agriculture place the recruitment and placement of all local farm -labor with the extension service "Mr Stallings will assist in all phases of the local labor Mr Christiansen said knows the farmers and labor conditions in Weber county and has been farm bureau president and supervisor of the county weed program He Is now chairman of the county labor committee and director of the Utah State Crop Improvement association from this The labor committee was organized into sub-commitees as follows: labor camp Barker chairman Thayne and Randall farm wages Roy Snooks chairman Stettler 27 of 768 Twenty-ninth was fined $25 after pleading guilty an offense of shingling a house without first obtaining a building permit The defendent stated he had obtained permission of Mayor Peery to proceed with the shingling of the house located in fire zone No 1 Presented as evidence was application for a permit with the denial notation affixed He had sought the permission in city commission meeting last Tuesday but failed to receive this with only Mayor Peery and Commissioner Saunders present It was at this time that he received the impression he £0uld proceed with the job On Wednesday with the full commission present the request for the permit was denied Stettler asked that responsibilty for the violation be 1 deferred because he was not the owner of the property where the wooden shingles were applied He said he had been hired by the Hunter Motor Co to work on the job at a daily wage Neither the company nor the property owner was cited in the complaint At the conclusion of the case Stettler was instructed to learn proper procedure for future building within Ogden city and to be informed by the office of the city engineer how to proceed with the roofing job
