Express your condolences in our gueswook at pnj.comobits Dems want to move backFla. primary TALLAHASSEE Democrats want to move Florida's presidential primary back to a later date to comply with the rules of both major parties. Their legislation filed this week, though, drew opposition Thursday from Florida Senate President Mike Haridopolos, a Merritt Island Republican.

Florida jumped its primary from March to January in 2008 to give the state more influence in selecting nominees. Both national parties then threatened to strip Florida of delegates. Haridopolos said that's a risk worth taking. He said Florida is the most important state in deciding presidential elections so it should be among the first to hold its primary. WWII vets get France's top honor ATLANTA Thirteen American World War II veterans from Alabama and Georgia have received France's highest honor.

France's consul general in Atlanta, Pascal Le Deunff, awarded the Legion of Honor to the veterans Thursday. It is to recognize their role in helping liberate France in 1944 and 1945. The National Order of the Legion of Honor was established by Napoleon Bonapartein1802.lt recognizes eminent service to France. Recipients are designated by French President Nicolas Sarkozy. Le Deunff recognized each veteran individually, reading off where he served and what other honors he had received.

He then addressed each man in French and pinned the medal onto his chest. License plate could honor KKK leader JACKSON, Miss. A fight is brewing in Mississippi over a proposal to issue specialty license plates honoring Confederate Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, who was an early leader of the Ku Klux Klan. The Mississippi Division of Sons of Confederate Veterans wants to sponsor a series of state-issued license plates to mark the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, which it calls the "War Between the States." The group proposes a different design each year between now and 2015, with Forrest slated for 2014.

"Seriously?" state NAACP president Derrick Johnson said when he was told about the Forrest plate. "Wow." Forrest, a Tennessee native, is revered by some as a military genius and reviled by others for leading an 1864 massacre of black Union troops at Fort Pillow, Tenn. Forrest was a Klan grand wizard in Tennessee after the war. Associated Press RICHARD "LARRY" O'NEIL 1929-2011 Richard Lawrence O'Neil, "Larry," passed away on February 7, 2011 at the age of 81.
