MORNING, NOVEMBER 20,1927. THE OGDEN STANDARD-EXAMINER 5--B PRESENTS FOR GOOD Many Things to Be Done By Boy Scouts During Christmas Time EOT SCOUT NOTES Some suggestions for good turns for Christmas! Call the troop together and talk over the whole good turn proposition. everybody to scout for new ideas. Let them keep their eyes and ears open to possible suggestions for good turns. Then at Christmas time get busy on enough to keep the troup occupied.

Here are a few suggestions: Take turns guarding coasting places and skating ponds. Shovel snow, cut wood, sprinkle ashes or sand on icy pavements. Find repair work to do In school, or church. Collect and repair toys for Christmas, distribute in hospitals, etc. Distribute Christmas baskets to the poor.

Stage entertainment in orphanage or children's home. Look up boys of scout age who are ill. Tell them of the possibility of becoming achievement scouts. The main thing is that at Christmas the troop get a good turn in mind and then with whole heart-put it over. Troop 32 of Liberty has started to again and is proposing to put all of the troops of the council on the shelf when it comes to work accomplished during the next year.

The new handbook is a vital help to the boys of the troop. NEW BOOK Every council has to maintain standards. These are the measuring rods of excellence in scout work in the community. In the past, the standards of this council have been published in a small green backed book procurable at scout headquarters. Now, however, the new handbook will be the standard of measurement.

If you are In doubt about what must be to pass a test, please look carefully in the new handbook. Scoutmasters who are in doubt as to the requirements will be informed cheerfully if they will call headquarters. FOB PATROL LEADERS Some scouts try to be "the boss" of their patrol, using their authority to order about those under their control. They might make a good boss for a gang of laborers who had to do as they were told. But the scouts of a patrol can leave if they don't like their leader's attitude.

Others are of still worse variety--the figureheads or dummies. They make no effort to lead or use their authority. They should bo promoted to the rear rank. The real leader is he who leads. The "boss" drives and the "dummy" does nothing.

The leader' sets the pace and appeals to the loyalty and spirit of each of his patrol--and they will follow. A patrol is no better than Its patrol leader. --Wilmington Council Bulletin. Af- reorganizing the patrols were given 10 minutes for patrol work.

Then a contest started, consisting of patrol yell, call or cry, stunt and a shirt talk by patrol leader on "Why I Have Chosen This Name For Our Patrol." The Cree patrol won the yell, and the call or cry. The Beaver patrol won tho.stunt and" the short talk. Both patrols were given a package of gum for Its hard efforts. German music came back to Paris shortly after firing ceased but it was years before German artists and scientists were welcomed. Vienna's famous state opera, however, is to send its company here May and it will play in the governments opera. Many German art works also have been shown and praised here but every now and then a spark of the old flame of hatred starts a little' Dackfire. When it was planned recently to show the of the German painter Liebermann in the small museum in the Tuilleries gardens, a government building near the state of Edith Cavell, there was an outcry that caused it to be shifted to a private gallery. When Max Reinhardt, the great German producer, was invited to play at the government's theatre, Odeon, there also was some criticism, but he was welcomed when he came here and was entertained 37 theatrical folk.

Stockholm will shortly open an ultra-fashionable hotel, laid out on American lines. YORK--This is the season the year when ducks wing anxiously along and deer crash nervously through the brake Iknow- ing full well that they are temporarily without benefit of game laws. And as a result, city dweller and country dweller Is faring forth Into the woods and fields. Before starting for the regions where game abounds experienced hunters consider the matter of clothes as carefully as the matter of arms.

They know that the proper atMre, like the right equipment, adds considerably to comfort success. While no particular and costume is essential to efficiency with gun and rifle, certain garments are designed for specific hunting conditions. CHOOSE CAREFULLY water proof coat which will to your comfort on a warm A add drizzly day in a duck boat may not be nearly as comfortable on a cold day in the north woods as a heavy mackinaw. Those versed in the chase 'know this and choose their clothes accordingly. Jf you are fond of deer hunting there are a number of garments which will help you bring home the venison.

A cap of mackinaw cloth, a macklnaw of more mackinaw cloth and breeches of still more mackinaw cloth are warm and comfortable. The colors vary. Black and white plaids are tasteful and are especially good if other hunters are in the vicinity. So dressed, the hunter may find some difficulty in stalking his quarry, but he is less likely to be fleers in the Young Ladies' Mutual Improvement association, told a thrilling story about football. And, of course, this is an outfit appropriate to rabbit, partridge, pheasant, or other small game shooting. Besides cap, mackinaw and breeches, the deer hunter wears heavy wool socks with red tops and water- resisting boots. A plaid "wool shirt of red and black or blue and black, or a shirt in solid color is also comfortable. Underwear should be woolen and of aweightto correspond with the climate. Other equipment for deer hunters includes wool lined, two-in-onc or split-palm gloves and waterproof coats of balloon cloth.

Duck shooting calls for another kind of apparel. A khaki cap of cloth which will turn water and a fur-lined leather Jacket prove valuable when you find yourself adrift In a duck boat amid a Green forest of marsh grass some cold morning. Other accoutrements vrhich are often to be found in the duck shooter's wardrobe are khaki mackinaws and slip-over shirts of waterfroof balloon cloth. Breeches may be of mackinaw cloth, like the deer hunter's or of oilskin. Split-palm shooting all-wool socks, chamois underwear and hip boots' are other worthwhile accessories.
