The lead does give you a margin for error." Stan Javier hit a two-run triple as Oakland scored four times in the third and drove out Brewers starter Mike Birkbeck, 0-3. Birkbeck just can't find what he needs to get a victory, even though he's had eight starts. "I don't know if it's mechanics but I'm still looking for that first win.

It's difficult, I'm not saying it's not. No excuse. I just didn't get the job done," Birkbeck said after surrendering five runs and six hits in just 2 2-3 innings. r'He didn't have it tonight. He didn't get his curve over and he just got hit good," said Milwaukee manager Tom Trebelhorn.

For Moore and the Athletics, that was a treat that led to a victory. "He's a power pitcher. Nothing fancy. The nicest thing as hitters is that we got him some runs finally," said catcher Terry Steinbach, who had three of the Athletics' 13 hits in a 6-2 victory over the Brewers. "It felt really good to catch him with a three- or four-run lead.

He can pitch his game and not worry about giving up one run and getting beat." Moore, 5-3 with a 1.96 ERA, has held American League batters to a .164 average in his 10 starts this season. The Lions, who finished in the bottom half of the Flyway Conference after claiming the league title last season, headed his words and won their third straight tournament game a 13-7 triumph over Pardeeville to claim its first Class Regional championship in more than 10 years.

It was Lomira 's sixth win in eight games and improved the team to a 9-10 overall record. "You know when you get into the tournament that you always have a chance," Drexler said, i could see us starting to play better a couple of weeks ago, but you never know if it's all going to come together at the right time." On Wednesday, it did. Lomira scored three runs in each of the first two innings and followed with at least one in each succeeding inning while winning pitcher Tom Cole held Pardeeville scoreless over the final three innings to earn the victory and end the Bulldogs season at 12-5. "Cole settled down a little bit and started getting his breaking ball over. He gave up just one hit in those last three innings," Drexler said.

Troy Rademann slugged two doubles for the Lions and teammates Pat Wiesner, Matt Mischo, Scott Langenecker, Shane Bauer and freshman Paul Unferth also had two hits.
