Jan. 13. Harry Lirown, aged 23, a brLiijaii on the Sunbury division, was thrown from his train about two miles above town, and horribly mutilated. He was not missed by his crew, and four trains passed over him be fore he was found, six hours later. Danbury Hatters Strike Knded.

Hasso was sitting in his store with friends when Antonio en tered. Antonio was his debtor mid had been told to keep away from the store, When he entered Sasso arose and walked to the front of the store, at the same time orderinir Antonio to leave.

Antonio turned just aa he reached the door and drew from his boot a stiletto, which he plunged into Sasso's abdomen. Antonio drew it across the abdomen, inflicting a terrible wound. The members of the Pernassus Literary club attached to the Kpiscopal church at Glen Hidgo will hold a vestry meeting to discover who put whisky in the lemonade at the late entertainment. 1'robaldy Murder and Suicide. ST. Louis, Jan. 13. The police have so far been unable to discover any evidence to show that Thursday night's double tragedy here was other than murder and suicide by a jealous paramour.

The woman's right name, it appears, is Mrs. Josio Renke, her husband, Louis A. Renke, being in Nevada, Mo. She separated from him to become the companion of J. T.

London, Jan. 13. The election to fill a vacancy in the house of commons for the South Lindsey or Horn Castle division of Lincolnshire caused by the deat of the Right Hon. Edward Stanhope, ex-secretary of state for war in Lord Salisbury's last cabinet, has resulted in a Conservative victory. Lord Willoughby de Eresby, the Conservative candidate, was elected by a vote of defeating Mr.

Moore, the Gladstonion candidate, who polled 3,744. Spain' Extravagant Demands. M.UHUD, Jan. 13. The government baa instructed General Martinez Campos, the commander at Melilla, to demand from the sultan that he pay an indemity of 1,000,000 and assent to the establishment of a neutral zone of 5011 meters broad around the Spanish frontier at Melilla.

Strodeman, the banker who recently as signed there, was arrested at the instance of Andrew Schurman, who deposited money with Strodeman within thirty days of the time he became insolvent Strodeman was released on bail. Other depositors will probably have him ar rested. Curtis Bribery Case Dismissed. San Francisco, Jan. 13.

It is understood that the grand jury has dropped the Curtis bribery case, owing to the inability to obtain sufficient evidence to warrant finding an indictment. Charges were made that the jury which acquitted Actor M. B. Curtis of the murder of Policeman Grant was bribed. Virginia's Judicial Candidates.

Workmen Will Start a Factory. Kittanning, Jan. 13. The union men locked out at Kirkpatrick mill at Leechlmrg have about given np the fight, and are arranging to leave that town. Several of them have formed a company, and it is stated on good authority that they will build a sheet mill at Canton, O.

Three More Kxplosion Victims. Logan, Jan. 13. The boiler of a sawmill owned by Jonathan and Silas Wilson, on Salt creek, twenty miles west of Logan, exploded while the mill was running, instautly killing Silas Wilson and his son and a man whose name is unknown. An Infant- Murderess.

Advices from Rio Janeiro state that the bombardment ot the city has recommenced. There is much discontent among the inhabitants, both in the city of Rio Janeiro and the provinces, against President Peixoto. This has been contributed to by the action of Peixoto in enrolling many foreigners for service tinder the government. Dixon Accepts a Challenge. New Youk. Jan. 13. it is announced that J.

S. Culbertson, of Chicago, has offered to back Alfred Griffiths, better known as "Young GrilTo," the Australian featherweight, who recently bested "Solly" Smith in Chicago, against any featherweight in the world for any sum up to This challenge is evidently aimed at George Dixon. Tom O'Rourke, Dixon's manager, who is now in Pittsburg, telegraphed his Xew York representative to accept the challenge, and at the same time he deposited $1,000 with the sporting editor ot the Xew York World. Toi'KKA, Jan. 13. Mrs. Mary E. Lease applied yesterday to State Auditor Prather for her voucher for last month's salary as president of the state board of charities, but Mr.

Prather declined to comply wit her request on account of the action taken by Governor Lewelling to secure her removal. Mrs. Lease announced that she will institute mandamus proceedings in the supreme court to compel the auditor to issue the voucher. Catcher Ilennett Will Recover. Toi'KKA, Jan.

Charley Ben nett, the Boston catcher, suffers great pain, but his friends state there are no longer any symptoms of a fatal termination resulting from the great shock caused by the amputation of both legs. His wife is helping care for him. John Clarkson, the Cleveland pitcher, is also with him. Ilennett can scarcely speak of his great misfortune without weeping bitterly.

Priests Fomented Sicilian Riots. Rome, Jan. 13. Private advices from Sicily assert that the recent disorders were largely fomented by the priests at Barrafranca cathedral, the canons of which ruug the bells, summoning he people to revolt. According to the advices received tho outbreaks were to have been the signal for a far wider movement, which would have ended in a general revolution throughout Italy.

An Octogenarian Cremated. Milwaukee, Jan. 13. A fire in the Cream City hotel, corner of Jackson and Wisconsin streets, drove the guests out in their night clothes. All escaped without injury, except a woman named Chrums, aged Hi) years, whose charred remains were found in her bed.

Wholesale Destruction of Grain. Chicago, Jan. 13. Three grain elevators and two malt houses belonging to the firm of Curt is Bennis were totally destroyed by fire last night. The buildings, with bushels of grain they contained, represent a loss of .100,000.
