Denton Won't Lose Eagle-Lion Classic i Move to Cotton Bowl 'Doubtful 9 Michigan And Southern Cat Rose Bowl By HARRY PARKS Record-Chronicle SporU Editor Denton probably won't lose Its every-other-year North Teias State- East Texas State grid show after all. Athletic Director Theron J. Pouts at North Texas JStafc said Saturday he considered it "very doubtful" that the game will be moved to the Cotton Bowl next year or any year. However, Fouts said that It made no difference to him one way or another and all he wanted to do was what the students, faculties and fans of Denton and Commerce wish. In fact, Fouts had Just a little-J hit rather the game would continue' to be held on one campus or the other, although he wants it where the people who wish to attend can do so.

At the present time, the feeling In some quarters is that the game has outgrown the stadia of the two schools. North Texas field seats 8,000 end Commerce has room for 6,000 fans. Although North Texas has never ponents for next fall. Except for four conference games, the haven't been able to do a bit of good. The big schools are afraid of the Eagles, who have won a reputation this year as one of the toughest teams In the Southwest.

However, things stand at present, such lines wir have to be played on the road, Florida wanted another chance at trie Eagles, and the tilt would have been played In Tort Worth next fall, Fouts reported, but the Gators were forced to a conference game on the date they Intended to play the Eagles. Arkansas, to whom the Eagles lost 0-12 this fall, is to let Fouts know In December whether or no! it wants bo book the Eagles in 1648 Otherwise, there aren't even any no top home game this year or that might have happened, Pouts thinks.

Cotton Bowl Contacted Fouts has' discussed moving the game with Bob Berry, who holds the dual role of East Texas State athletic director and head coach. How. ever. Berry last week was much concerned with the big game Saturday to be Interested In next year's plans. Pouts also has contacted cotton Bowl officials, and the big Dallas stadium can be had on a percentage of the gate basis.

However, the date of the annual East Texas-North Texas battle conflicts with the Baylor-SMU tilt which will be held next year in the Cotton Bowl. To get the bowl, the PJagles and Lions would have to play on Thanksgiving Dfty or Friday night, and Fouts does not know whether that would be satisfactory or not. Right now, the top Item on Fouts prospective games. A new stadium North Texas State, planned foi NEW YORK, NOV. Mlch- gan and Southern California clinched bertha In the ROM Bowl today.

Alabama massacred Louisiana State to earn a Sugar Bowl bid, Southern Methodist and Perm State both triumphed to set up a ixwslble Cotton Bowl cut college football neared Its seasonal exit. "We want a new stadium as quick as we can get it, and It won't be too soon for me," Fouts stated. FtouU also revealed that North Texas State will have a new gym naslum In 1948-49, capable of seat" Ing 4.000 fans and possibly as many 7,000 in a pinch. Gym Purchased From Army The gymnasium has already been purchased from the Army. It is situated at Camp Welters near Min era! Wells, and Is hit enough allow three basketball games to be played at the same time. Ill will cost with an additional sum of 140,000 needed for the transport and erection of the structure on college nroperty newly purchased west of the present athletic plant.

Until the new gymnasium Is completed, nobody but college students will be able to attend North Texas cage games, Fouts said.
