PHASES. 9:83 Quarter 22 127. New 0:23 Moon 29 d. THURSDAY, APRIL 19, 1900 NELSON DALE BREHM. Untimely Death of a Very Promising Young Gentleman.

Mr Nelson Dale Brehm, son of Register Brehm, of West Pomfret street, died at 19,30 o'clock today. He had been ill for a year past with lung trouble. A week ago his condition became serlous, but he did not spend an entire day in bed during that time. At noon today his condition suddenly grew worse and he passed away at the hour mentioned. The deceased was in his 21st year and was born in Newyille, coming here recently when his parents removed to Carlisle.

He was ever patient and uncomplaining and was ready to die when the end came. Mr Brehm knew he could not live long and made all arrangements concerning his funeral. His death is peculiarly sad as it was an untimely one, his career being so full of promise. He was employed for some time in the spoke factory and also in the knitting mill at Newville, and was member of the Zion Lutheran Church of that place. His parents two brothers survive, viz: Herman and John, both at home.

Church at Third and Pine streets. In his school days he was awarded a prize as the best in the high school, which faculty retained to a large degree in after life. He was born October 14, 1810, and attained the remarkable age of almost 90 years. In early life he was apprenticed to learn the tailoring trade, which ordeal meant more than that of today. In 1833, while working in Harrisburg, he became acquainted with and Was united in marriage Miss Mary Jane a sister of the late Daniel 8.

Dunlap, then a hotelkeeper in Newville, who induced the young couple to locate in the latter place, and where he carried on merchant tailoring tor many years, retiring from the business in 1875. They arrived by stage over the pike and local team from the Newville orossing. In politics his first Presidential vote was cast for Henry Clay in 1832, and he subsequently affiliated with the Republican party, which principles he heartily endorsed and followed, rather than personal adhesion. During the great conflict for the preservation of the Union he sent forth three sons and son-in-law to serve in soldier ranks, and contributed materially in other directions. In 1836, when the first passenger train passed up the Cumberland Valley Railroad, then constructed on stringers and strap iron, he, carrying his eldest daughter, proceeded down the traok 8 distance and boarded the slowly moving train below the depot and was amongst the first Newvillites to enjoy such 8 novel ride. Nine years since he suffered a great afliotion in the loss of his eyesight by the death of the optic nerve, which prevented him from following his great joyment of reading. As he was well formed, 8 good conversationalist and possessed a very retentive memory, be was sought after as an oncyolopedia, and was peculiarly versant with the history of lands and events in the upper end of the county.

A residence of 67 years had qualified him to speak authoritatively. In Newville but few persona remain who were residents when he oame here, the town having grown from a little country village to a place of about 2000 peoplo. Morphine on Death. The crowd that quickly gathered in front of Victoria hotel Clark street could see the slight, girlish figure as it clung to the slender railing of the fire escape above the eighth story window; and their faces blanched as the wind swayed her to and fro, till at times it looked as though she would be dashed to the pavement below. "I will not come back," she cried, "till you promise me I may have morphine." It was the old, old story of sickness and headache and morphine; then more morphine, till the young woman had become a slave to the habit. Her nervous system was undermined and she had courted death rather than submit to medical treatment and be deprived of the drug. "For more than a dozen years my wife had suffered from female troubles and nervous disorders.

She would experience the most severe headaches, and it would be impossible for her to rest or sleep DO without the aid of morphine or opium in some form. She doctored with the leading physicians at home and several at Indianapolis, but they did not help her. Finally she commenced using Dr. Miles' Nervine and a short time was able to sleep without the use of those horrible drugs. Her health rapidly improved, and now she does not need to take any medicine." W.
