HESS 1950 2005 Michael D. Hess, 55 of Gulf Breeze, died of brain cancer on Saturday, November 19, 2005 with his family by his side. He was born in Berwyn, IL on April 5, 1950. Following graduation from Berwyn High School, he attended college at the University of lowa then he joined the Army and served as a helicopter pilot in Viet Nam where he won numerous medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. After returning from Viet Nam he was a homebuilder in lowa City, IA and flew seven years for the lowa National Guard.

In 1980, he moved to Louisiana and was employed by Air Logistics. He helped to establish and fly the first ambulance at West Jefferson General Hospital in New Orleans. In 1988, he began a career as a corporate pilot for and was still employed at the time of his death. Michael was best known by his family and friends as He had a "Heart of Gold" and was always willing and able to assist with projects both big and small. Everyone who knew him loved and preciated him for his kindness and his many talents.

He served as Pensacola Beach Mardi Gras King Nereus Il for the Mystic Krewe of Nereids and was a charter member and president of the Pensacola Beach Krewe of Brewe. Michael was a 30-year member of the American Legion Post Coralville, IA and a charter member of American Legion Post Pensacola Beach. In addition he was a member of BPOE Pensacola Beach, The American Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Knights of Columbus Council and St. Ann Catholic Church, Gulf Breeze. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Ella Hess; his son, Bryan (Ramona) Barnes of block of Charmonte Way, two counts of narcotics violation.

Lou Sherrill, Beverly Hills, CA; and three grand-nieces, two grand-nephews, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many, friends. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2005, at St. Ann Catholic Church, Gulf Breeze. Immediately following the Mass everyone is cordially invited to continue the celebration at a dinner at the Pensacola Beach Elks Lodge Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Krewe of Brewe and Officers of Elks Lodge 497. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, to Covenant Hospice Ann, Gulf Breeze, Rose Building Lawn Fund.

Lloyd loved to garden, a loving wife and grandmother to all her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Lloyd was also a welder during WW Il. Melissa was born a fighter and was raised in Pensacola. Upon graduating from Tate High School, she proved her independence by moving to Tallahassee where she held jobs at the Florida Supreme Court and the Division of Elections. had many great adventures, including travel to Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Amsterdam and many places in the United States.

After graduating from FSU with a bachelor's degree in psycholoMelissa returned to Pensacola where she touched many lives working with disabled adults, helping them to live independent lives.
