In his past six starts, Tavarez has four wins and two no-decisions.

"This is me," said Tavarez who was sidelined earlier with a shoulder injury. "The hitters knows that I coming. It feels good to have my fastball back." Armando Almanza and Bra-den Looper pitched a scoreless eighth innings, and Vladimir Nunez allowed one hit in the ninth inning for his 16th save. It only made sense that the final out was pinch-hitter Jolbert Cabrera's grounder to Castillo. "I'll go home and watch ESPN," said Castillo who expects to play tonight even though his left foot was wrapped after the game.

"They'll be talking about me and our team. After it's over, I'll forget it. There are four more at-bats waiting tonight Castillo raised his average to .338 for the season. Only 13 players, covering 15 streaks, have hit in more consecutive games in baseball history. George Sisler and Ty Cobb did it twice. Castillo becomes the fifth player to have a 33-game streak. Hornsby, who accomplished the feat in 1922 with St. Louis, hit .466 (68-for-146) during his streak.

Pete Rose, Paul Molitor, Tommy Holmes, Benito Santiago and Dom DiMaggio are the only living players to exceed Castillo. Santiago, at 34 in a row, has the longest streak of any player not born in the United States. Castillo is from the Dominican Republic. In Castillo's first at-bat, plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt called him out on strikes. In the third inning, he grounded to shortstop Omar Vizquel, whose throw to first base just beat the speedy Castillo.

On his third at-bat in the sixth inning, Castillo bounced a ball off home plate. It landed about halfway between the third-base line and the mound. Cleveland starter Danys Baez fielded it but threw late and wide to first base, allowing Castillo to reach second base. "I don't think his feet hit the ground," teammate Derrek Lee said. "He wanted it bad." Cliff Floyd singled him home to tie the game at 1.

"I don't mind seeing him get his hits," said Cleveland second baseman John McDonald. "It's a phenomenal streak, but I don't want to see him beat us." In the seventh inning, Jerrod Riggan (1-1, 5.02 ERA) walked Wilson and pinch-hitter Tim Raines with one out. Castillo then laced a single to right field that scored Wilson. "People get so tied up in the streak," third base coach Ozzie Guillen said, "His first hit put us in position to tie the game, and his second one won it." Marlin starter Julian Tava-rez (5-3, 5.98 ERA) delivered a solid seven innings allowing four hits with five strikeouts and three walks. In the past five Texas utility player Mike Lamb had 3 hits and drove in a run against the Cubs.

Cleveland 3rd baseman Travis Fryman is 9-for-45 this month, dropping his average to .21 9. Austin pitched to 4 batters in the 8th, Ohka pitched to 1 batter in the 8th, Lloyd pitched to 1 batter in the 8th. IBB off Austin (Stevens) 1. HBP by Ohka (Berger), by Ohka (MiSweeney). Balk MSuzuki.
