Georgia Tech's Golden Tornado blew relentlessly onward yesterday afternoon on Grant field and the gallant little Davidsonlans fell by the wayside victims of the cyclones wrath just other teams have-fallen and Just as others will before the curtain rings down. The score was 66 to e. and represented the best exhibition of offensive strength the Tornado has displayed this year liege enough to make cold chills creep don the spines of the outfit Georgia Tech will face during this year of grace. The soars tells nothing of the I struggle the Presbyterians put ur i The vast majority of us have a bad habit of throwing up our hands horror at scores like this. We lose tight of the fact that the- losUr team might have put up some sort of a fight.

I Our position might be an Insane one we held. to the view that Davidson battled and that it a not entirely the fault of the Carols linlans who played on GrntfieIrl yesterday that their teams defense was struck to the-round by the powerful gusts of the Tornado. We are not attempting to alibi for the Carolinians nor do we seek to natch from that wonderful Tech machine one hit of the credit that Is its due for the defeat it plastered on the visitors. Flaying as It did yesterday the Golden Tornado ha nothing to fear tram any team on arth Playing as It did Saturda. Again. no effort is being made at establishing- an alibi. but we cling to the Idea that the score would have bn smaller had Coach Gray been permitted to play tjie team he has betn training- for the Reasons games. Before proceeding Hjrther lets go Into Just what con- itlon. or predicament.

An attractive young woman with golden brown hair and the tree swinging stride of an exhu- beranUy healthy bog walking be tween admiring lanes of golf en thusiasts on her way from Ute fif teenth hole to the club house of the Mayfield Country club course here Saturday. The men lining the triumphal path took oft their hats to her. The women. without a known exception. cheered her.

patted her on the back. and. uttered all of those feminine congratulatory praises that women use. The young. woman with the golden brown hair smiled happily and modestly acknowledged the applause.

Sle was not embarrassed she wasn't flurried. She simply acted like Alexa Stirling always acts on a golf course perfectly at home. The loud cheers and the lines of admirers were to pay her homage by reason of her" smashing victory over Mrs. Dorothy Campbell Ifurd. of littsburg thus bringing the woman's golf championship to her for the third successive time.

No one begrudged her the homage. for she' deserved it. She had Just given one of the most skillful and best-balanced women golfers on either. side of the water the most crushing defeat of her career. Wins Flr Three Holes.

Starting with an irresistible rush that won her the first three holes before her opponent could literally catch her breath. and carrying on with added Impetus until at the turn. she was five up. Miss Stirling taught her brilliant opponent to a standstill and ended the match on the fifteenth green. Technically she won by 4 and.

to go. But she could. have made it up if she had cared to sink a foot putt on that green. Mrs. Kurd conceded the match before this stroke.

however and Miss Stirling did not shoot for the cup. Analyzing the game. it was not much of a championship final. It was more of an exhibition by Miss Stirling with Mrs. Hurd acting as a rather colorless pacemaker.

To do Mrs. Bond justice. she did not play the game of which she is ca pable. She can drive better than she did Saturday. and her short game' Is better than she exhibited.

and one of the most difficult courses- in the country. Miss Stirling drove like one in spired. Time alter time she car tied more than 200 yards. She consistently outdrove Mrs. 1.

from zo to DV yards. An example of her driving was given on the ninth hole. It is la 450 hole. Miss Stirling's first snot carried more than 250 yards. Her iron shot.

put her vu the green. More perfect goW than thi cannot be expected from man or women. Whenever she was In trouble she calmly gave the situation tkje passive look and shot out witiT ieemtng ease. Miss Stirling ma golf look easy. They re off with a pair of beautiful drives.

Miss Stirling- giving an idea of what was to follow by out. driving Mrs. Iturd 25 yards. The sun was shining brightly and with the garbed and spirited gallery. coursing through the green valleys and over the hills with their van-colored autumn foliage.

furnished a picturesque and colorful setting. Both were on in three. Mrs. Hard missed a fairly easy putt for her tour. and Miss Stirling dropped her putt.

she has done this In practically every game he has played during the tournament. Either on the nut or second hole she has given her opponent a setback that was never recovered. Cksp Nervy Player. Following a drive which sliced slightly into the rough on the second the Atlantagirl drove from the top of the hill to the green situated in the valley and completely surrounded by traps. It is a nervy chance and most players play It safe with short approach.

But Miss Stirling never does. which Is- probably one of the reasons she is champion. Both smashed yard drives on the third hole. Again Miss Stirling demonstrated her perfect game by driving to within tep feet of the wiw an Iron shot. The champion was down In a perfect five.

When her drive went Into a trap on the fourth hole and she shot Ito another trap rIn to get out. Miss Stirling calmly conceded the hole and then drove nearly 250 yards on number five. The gallery. stretched along the course eight and. ten deep gasped with astonishment as the ball sailed on and on never very high but traveling with a tremendous carry.

That was the kind of golf that put Mrs. Hurd oft her game. Both were on in threrbowever and both missed short putts and the hole was halved in five. Miss Stirling took the sixth by holing in five. while Mrs.

Hurd was taking a six and increased her ad. vantage by taking the nit hole. After they had halved the eight Miss Stirling won the ninth by sinking a foot putt on a rolling slope of green that required the greatest skill. Some called that putt luck. It happened too often during the put tournament to be luck.

Five Up at Turn. With this crushing lead five up at the turn the gallery realioJ that It was only toe matter ot a few holes and Dorothy Campbell Hurd formerly Invincible British champion twice American cnam- plult anti twice Canadian champion would have to admit that she nail met her master. and that there was no doubt about It at all. Mrs. Hurd won the eleventh hole- after the tenth had been halved.

but when the next tour holes wee likewise halved unless the wt is counted as a win lor miss mining the match was over. it was a disappointing climax. It was too easy for Miss Stirling. At the fifteenth tee. after Mrs.

Hurd had missed her second putt and Miss Stirling was a scant toot or two from the cup she waved Miss Stirling aside. grasped her by tile hand. and gave her the first of many pats on the back. They should have uight to the last hole and Mrs. Hurd should have lost on the last putt.

But Aleza Stirling doesn't end matches like that. She en them back in the woods. when aspiring opponents carried along at an unholy clip by her smashing game usually curl up lind throw in the sponge. Each team has now won two games ant the battle wilt be renewed tomor. row with the American learners the favorites. The tribe of.

Speaker evidently burnished up it collective war club dujing the trip from Brooklyn and fell upon the Tielpless Robins with savage attack that wept the easterner completely off and brought unlimited Joy to the thousands of tabs who hadbeen watting the awakening of the home club with confident Impatience. While the Indians were batter- Ing four or Brooklyn's pitchers- to a Stanley Coyeleskle was- holding the invaders almost helpless in the grasp. of hi elusive spitball delivery Only' five hits were collected from the former mIners shoots. In al most every inning the Robin batters went out in order. So perfect was control and the defense of his teammate at his back that only three vEuperbas were left strded and only one.

Jimmy Johnston completed the circuit for a tally. Wo la First Prom the" offensive standpoint the Cleveland clan tore Into the National wltb a rush In the first inning and actually won the game In that frame as later developments proved. Two runs were quickly. accumulated followed by another pair in the third and the final score went across in the fifth. It was not he total- number of runs that the Indians made which Impressed their follower but the manner In which the wlnner fairly ran rampant through the highly touted pitching talent of- the National league pennant winners.

Leon Cadors was knocked out of the bos in the second session. and Mamaux. who replaced him suffered a similar fate In the third period. Rube Marquard. who earlier In- the day had been arrested for ticket specu- latalng and released upon his word to report for a hearing- qn Monday followed Mamaux.

and after ridding himself of the heritage or Mamaux. pitched good ball until he retired in order to permit Lamar to Sat for him. Jeff Fj-effer then took up the burden the hurling and had the final run scored against his de livery. Twelve Jilts five runs and ten Indians left on the bases tells in a nutshell the story of Cleveland's rise and massacre of the Robins. Coveys Work.

The airtight hurling of Coveleske was hardly needed in view of the brutal manner lit Which Speaker and bls players battered the offerings of the Brooklyn quartet. Nevertheless Stanley moistened the ball time after time and shot it up to the- plate wit all the hit-defying- slips- and slants as though the contest depended entirely upon his ability to slip th ball past the weak Robins without eveu the courtesy or a how do. In the nine innings iii which was necessary for him to take th mount iceieekie hurled the sphere at Brooklyn batters 86 times. Of these deliveries 22 were balls. 26 strikes nine foul.

strikes and three fouls after the second strike. Seven times th ball was played for a ground ou and fourteen times for fly outs. These figures plus the five scattered hits against Coveleskle show his effectiveness In the box. The victory came at the psycho. logical moment for the Cleveland club who are now thought to have the edge on the Brooklyn team.

With the score of games an even at two each and three games stilt to play on their home reservation the advantage should rest with the Indians. The American leaguers have now seen every Brooklyn pitcher of class working vagatns' them and the star twirlers of the Robins are no longer a mystery. With the backing of home crowds and such batting as they uncoV ered today there appears to reason for the' odds offered by the Cleveland fans before tie series opened. Support. The effect of this loyal support was evident today In every action of the Indians both before and during the game.

The support given the home club was fully up to the standard of any previous worlds series in any part of the country and It was apparent that the American league combination worked with more confidence and certainty under these conditions. Cleveland started to make the team feel that the entire cjtyand section was behind It and believed Implicitly in Its ability. to wIn out from the very moment that the players stepped off the train after their disastrous- start In Brooklyn.
