COLORSTRIP: Orlando Sentinel THURSDAY, B3 CENTRAL FLORIDA STATE Four dead dolphins washed ashore off southeast Volusia County on Wednesday and more are expected as a 3-month-old red tide bloom continues off the Atlantic coast. The dolphins, found by a ranger at the northern end of Canaveral National Seashore, will be tested to confirm suspicions that toxins from red tide killed them. Red tide has also been linked to sea turtle deaths in Brevard County. Anyone who finds a dead dolphin should call the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 1888-404-3922. POLK COUNTY Help sought in double slaying Polk County detectives have released photographs of a man they want to identify who was at a gas station Friday night before two store employees were gunned down.

The man, who was driving a dark Chevrolet Avalanche pickup, has not been named a suspect but may be a witness, the Office said. The man is black, has tattoos on the back of his neck, and wore a dark T-shirt with a colored logo on the front. Detectives also are seeking information about a white Mitsubishi photographed in the parking lot of the BP gas station after the shootings occurred. Investigators continue to offer a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the deaths of gas station employees Dashrath Patel and Pravinkumar C. Patel.

The two were shot as they stood outside the store on County Road 557 north of Lake Alfred. The Office has said the store was closed for the night when, about 9 p.m., a man wearing dark clothing and a dark head covering shook the locked door and then shot through it. The employees were standing under the business marquee, where they were changing the sign information, when the man approached and then shot both men in the head. Anyone with information can call Detective Ivan Navarro at 863-287-8313. Tips can be reported anonymously through Crime Stoppers, which is offering the cash reward, at 1-800-226-TIPS.

The Area In Brief Dead dolphins found; red tide is suspected VOLUSIA COUNTY Four men, including a father and son, were charged with grand theft after Orlando police said they were caught Tuesday night stealing close to $2,000 in diesel fuel from a tanker. One of the men, the driver of the tanker, told officers he did not think he did anything wrong because he never turned a profit from the theft, an arrest report said. The driver, Lino Franco, 43, of Kissimmee posted $500 bail Wednesday and was released from the Orange County jail.

The other suspects, Edrey Frias, 26; Amado Frias, 46; and Barbaro Batista, 32, all from Orlando, left the correctional facility on pre-trial releases. The owner of Quick Fuel Fleet Services, a bulk-fuel supplier, told police he had discovered that Franco was making unscheduled stops and unloading hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel on an access road north of John Young Parkway and Shader Road, the report said. Orlando police Detective Rob Everett acted on the tip and waited at a distance at the access road Tuesday night. Everett wrote in his report that about 11 p.m. he watched Franco siphoning diesel from his tanker and transferring the fuel into metal bladders installed inside the beds of trucks driven by Amado Frias and Batista.

Edrey Frias served as a lookout, the officer wrote. Quick Fuel owner Richie Willis told officers that the 600-plus gallons of diesel, valued at $3.15 a gallon, were headed to the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant off Mercy Drive. Everett said he waited for the men to finish the transfer and pull away from the access road. Minutes later, Orlando police units converged at the scene and arrested the four. not sure how long been going on Everett said.

Michael Lambert represents Mike Shallow, the former Daytona Beach commissioner and mayoral candidate who was arrested during a Sears bathroom sex sting last month.

Lambert thinks comments made by Chitwood, who is known for his colorful quotes, will prevent his client from getting a fair trial. Lambert asked a judge Wednesday for a gag order to prevent Chitwood from speaking publicly about the case. County Judge Peter McGlashan said he would review news articles and radio interviews with comments before making a ruling. Both the state and the city attorney argued the gag order was premature. Lambert said standing in the community give his comments more weight.

At issue are the hours and how much skin is too much to bare. Before, when Playmates sat on Brevard County property, it could keep the doors open and strippers gyrating in their birthday suits until 2a.m.

But when the property was annexed by Cocoa in 2003, the rules changed. The guidelines require dancers to wear opaque coverings. And according to code enforcement officers, the business was required to close promptly at 11 p.m. The owner objected. In response, Playmates is asking a federal judge to find the ordinance unconstitutional and award it damages for depriving the club of its civil rights.
