At o'clock this morning The Constltu- tion received. a dispatch from Ala. with the information that two of the ne- lToel who were salt to be aiding Holt to escape arrived there yesterday.

They were watched and were heard to express sympathy for the murderer who. they said was making good his escape. The negroN in company with another negro. Dock Reed. a relative of Sam Holt.

left the town late yesterday afternoon go. log In a westerly direction The sheriffs of Opttka and Lafayette have been corn munkated with by wire and have been requested to put togs on the trail of the three negroes. It is thought that Holt is secreted In the neighborhood of Cusseta and. that the us- groes are aiding him in every way. A vigorous search will be made this morning and it is probable that the relative of Holt will also be arrested.

The dispatch Is as follows Cusseta Ala. April 2 a Special Two strange negroes who are aids to Sam Holt came here on train No. 33 yesterday Wednesday afternoon and Inquired for Dock Reed. a relative of Sam Holt. A posse Gf five was organized to watch them and it reached.

Reeds house about 9 o'clock at night. At 9 SO clock the two negroes with Dock Reed. returned to the house. and. their conversations were heard dls- tlncU7 by two of the posse who were eavesdropping.

The neroe related the whole story of the Time and said among other things The scoundrel is moving now. Yea he is safe. They said that Mrs Crantord would also he killed before the end of the year. They expressed great sympathy for Holt. The sheriffs at QpeUka.

and Lafayette have been wired to come here at once with dogs. The neltJMtI carried Reed to a westerly direction that is parallel but about a mile away from the Western railway" NEW DESCRIPTION OP HOLT. Wears No. 9 shoes has no teeth missing. distance have the appearance of being missing. He keeps his hair clipped close on the scalp except OR the top of the head. It now develops that the name of the De. who Is being pursued hundreds of men in middle Georgia. for the foul murder of Alfred Cranford and the assault of his wIfe at Palmetto.

is Sam Holt and nOt Hose. The entry on the account books of the murdered Crareford confirm the matter and number of competent persons have come forward to say that if the negro was known as Hose it was an assumed name. The Constitution was communicated with late last night at the request of' Mrs. Cranford who wished to give a more detailed description Oil the negro. It is said that he wears a number nine shoe instead of a.

number seven. and that' he has. no teeth missing His teeth are email and short and two the upper. ones ar discolored and at a distance Jiare the appearance of being miss- log. He usually keeps his hair clipped close to the scalp except on the top of the head.

The. fact that Holt has not yet been captured Instead of discouraging those en pgeod in his pursuit seems only to spur them on to more determined efforts. When- er a report La made that a. negro answering Holts description has been located armed men in numbers hasten at one to the place. So Teat is the interest in the chase that it is safe to 1' that fully one thousand men armed and stimulated with the desire to leave' no possible clew uninvestigated are scouring the country In the vicinity of Palmetto for the negro.

The woods and country boot Milan and oodbury- have been thoroughly beaten by these posses until it hardly seems possible that any one could remain in hiding without being discovered. The search from the very first has been systematic and the puraurers have sworn that they wilt not give up the chase until Holt has been run to earth and made to suffer for his crimes. TIM Utile town of Woodbury la practically deserted. Every man and boy able to I a. gun.

and help in the dhase has left home determined to assist in the capture. Business lies suspended soil many of the stores have their shutters up awaiting the rteurn of their owners. Crowds are leaving Grtmrt and through- out that section of the' state the Interest and feeling la at fever heat. For every man returning tired and worn out by the vain pursuit there are two ready to take his place. Fresh bloodhounds are being put upon possible trails and the Interest Instead of dying out is increasing with every hour ct fruitless search.

The people of the counties about Pike ar convinced that the. fleeing murderer Is still In the vicinity of Woodbury and are bending every effort to locate him. The entire country is up in arms and hundreds of men on toot and in buggies are tracking the fugitive over hills and. through the swamp lands. The search Is kept up through the night and the woods and fields are teeming with men anxious for a.

glimpse of the negro. Yesterday afternoon- it was reported at Woodbury that Holt had been seen and positively Identified near that. place and had been chased into a. swamp. The man was running when seen tint' and a posse followed firing two shots at.

the fugitive. AS soon as the Information was received hundreds flocked to the place and at last accounts the' swamp was completely surrounded news was received from there at. a' Tate hour and it. is possible that if Holt was the one seen going into the swamp that it will only a matter of hours when he will be secured. The men were camped about the swamp waiting for daybreak when they would begin the work of beating the woods for the negro.

It caught his fate is assured and it Is probable that he will never be carried to Palmetto alive. FIRE UNDERWRITERS AT Georgia Association Meets end Transacts Business. Savannah. April 19 Special The Georgia association of Fire Underwriters held their session at Tybee today. with President Fred W.

sophomores marched to morning chapel attired in gay and gaudily ornamented sombreros. They were speedily in center of Ill-concealed disdain and envy and straightway felt their spacious hats none too large for their important heads. From sentinel to sentinel the veteran oaks guarding the campus walks echoed and echoed with- the cries of learner "hayseed" and the like which the rest of th college unstintedly voiced. Every where the sophomores were seen- they were invariably followed by the Invectives of aspiring college mates. There was.

no peculiar reason that in duced the sophomores to don these capacl- one hats. In fact they had a very good motive for so doing. They Had heard that then' senior friends contemplated procur- the hats for the purpose or keeping all. sunshiny influence from their serious and benign countenances and conspired together to play a practical joke on their dlgntfied lders So class action was taken and it was unanimously agreed to buy th hats and adopt them as the sophomore regulation ere the' seniors were up and doing. Accordingly they were telephoned for to Atlanta and came down by the night express.

It is understood that the seniors are taking the joke calmly and serenely and will not retaliate at Speakers' Places. The contest rot- commencement speakers' places- In- the sophomore freshmen' and sub-freshmen' classes resulted in bringing forth some fine oratory and showed' the presence of many forcible speakers from which Emory may choose her next repre. sentatlve to the oratorical contest.
