Dorian took walking lessons, she learned so well that a theatrical agent and his wife spotted her and suggested she might do well to follow in the footsteps of such as Gypsy Rose Lee. LONELY LIFE Surprisingly, the life of a well-employed stripper is lonely.

Dorian, who keeps an apartment in New York, does most of her traveling by plane and when she's work going now," he says. "I've been lucky to have things fall into place so that do a play on Broadway, then a movie, a few TV appearances and then back to Broadway." His last plays were a 17-month role with Paul Muni "Inherit the Wind': and musical "Oh! Captain." Besides the movie he is shooting now, Tony had good roles in "Oh, Men! Oh, "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?" and "Mo Down Payment." It was in the role of Mr. Weskit of N.B.C.'s "Mr. Peepers" series that TV audiences first got acquainted with Tony. Despite its up and downs, was one of the best situation comedy series TV ever fostered.

"Anyway," asserts Miss Dorian Dennis, a brunette who ranks among the, top 15 in this specialized area of show business. "I know that I'm making five times as much as a competent chemist." A few years back Miss i a Brooklyn girl whose mother and father were pharmacists, was a pre-med student at New York University with every intention of becoming a doctor.

Her father died and money was short so when Dorian (her name was Rene then) received her bachelor's degree, she took' a job in the laboratory at the Army's Fort Monmouth. "It was a dull job," she recalls. "Lots of paper work, and my job was analyzing wire I. peeled them and tested them." She worked briefly as a hat check girl at the Latin Quarter and Toots ShoVs, and finally got a job as a show girl at the Havana Madrid. But before Tony could be swung from the yardarm atop the C.B.S. flagship station, a grateful audience inundated him with calls and letters of praise. This grassroots uprising stayed his execution. "What made it even funnier," reports Tony, "was that many of these letters mentioned what a swell guy the sponsor must be to let me do this.

'SWELL GUV "One sponsor who had already hired an announcer to read his commercial, gave it back to me." Encouraged by this turn of events, Tony decided to battle the invading Madison Avenue battalions. One morning he devoted three hours to arguing over the wording of one commercial and finally won his point. "You've got to remember, of course, that I knew I was going to be doing this for only two weeks. If it had been much longer, I would have given up. "That's what eventually happens to anyone trying to be good in TV.

They are worn down until they tell themselves that the salary is the same at the end of the week, no matter how hard they try, so they give up." The "Rebellion of Randall" caused such an impact on the Godfrey audience that Tony was offered his own daytime show by all three major networks. He naturally was flattered, but not so much so that he would take leave of his senses to play David to the Madison Avenue Goliath. Where does a girl go from stripping? "Well," said Dorian, "I'd like to get into the legitimate theatre and maybe do some motion picture work. New Play MONTREAL (AP Andre Pierre Boucher, 22-year-old Montreal poet and playwright, is to direct his play 'Les Embardees" in a production for the Theatre Guild in New York. "Les Embardees" was produced here in February, but, says Boucher, the script was turned into "a soap opera because everyone was afraid of the origihalfrScript in which unconventional sexual relationships were implied." Two weeks after presentation of the watered-down version the Theatre Guild requested the original French script. The young playwright says he is going to live in New York for a while to "make contacts and get the feel of it" before venturing the production. "The advertising agency hacks in the business destroy you," says Tony. "They have grabbed control away from the creative people.

In four years they have done to TV what it took them 25 years to do to radio." Currently Tony has managed to get away from it all. He is hiding out with Debbie Reynolds at M.G.M. where they are to share star billing in a movie titled, "The Mating Game." Tony's most recent brush with the mad moguls of Madison Avenue took place August when he sat in for the vacationing Arthur Godfrey, doing both daytime radio and TV shows. As you may have expected (and Tony did, too), the agency minons representing F.C.C. Authorizes KALA-TV Permit For Channel 7 WASHINGTON, Nov. 5 (TJPI) The Federal Communications Commission announced yesterday it has granted KALA, channel 8, Wailuku, Maui, temporary authority to operate on channel 7 until January 30, 1959. The agency said the authority was granted without prejudice to any action which the F.C.C. may take on a rule making petition filed by Hawaiian Broadcasting System, to substitute channel 7 for channel 8 in Wailuku.

Hawaiian Broadcasting protested KONA-TV's operating on Channel 8 for its Wailuku station KALA because this might interfere with the reception of KGMB-TV's channel 9 on Maui and the Big Island, a KONA-TV executive said. Hawaiian Broadcasting thought that shifting Channel 8 to Honolulu and Chan-ner 7 to Wailuku would solve the problem and so "in a spirit of friendly competition" KONA-TV did so, he said. 17" 12" PER MO.
