This is a great job, and I can do the two things that I enjoy. This is going to be awesome." Meanwhile, Matulia talked about the good fortune that Huntley: Starts at LSCC on July 2. Jonathan Lucroy is with rookie-level Helena, a Brewers affiliate in Montana. By JOE WILLIAMS SENTINEL STAFF WRITER Umatilla's Jonathan Lucroy was scheduled to start his career as a professional baseball player Tuesday night, but accolades for his college season at Louisiana-Lafayette continued to pour in.

Lucroy, a catcher who was a third-round selection of the Milwaukee Brewers in the Major League Baseball draft on June 7, is now a member of the Helena (Mont.) Brewers, Milwaukee's rookie-league team in the Pioneer League. Helena began its season Tuesday night at Missoula, against the Ospreys, an affiliate of the Arizona Dia season, including a five-hit game against South Alabama. Lucroy also tied for first on the team in multiple-RBI games with 13 and had five or more RBIs in four games, the most of any player on the team. In addition to setting a career record in RBIs, Lucroy finished in the top five in eight career categories despite playing only three seasons. He is fourth in career batting average second in hits (241), first in career doubles (54), third in career home runs (35), first in total bases (414), third in slugging percentage (.612) and fourth in sacrifice flies (16).

Lucroy was one of two players from Louisiana-Lafayette selected to the ABCA Rawlings All-America second team. Scott Hawkins, a designated hitter for the Cajuns, also was selected to the team with a .344 average and 16 home runs. mondbacks. Already chosen first-team All-Sun Belt Conference team, Lucroy also was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association'sRawlings Sporting Goods All-America second team, to the third team of Baseball America's All-America team, and he was selected Louisiana's top collegiate hitter by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Lucroy hit .360 in 61 games for the Ragin' Cajuns during his junior season.

He had 94 hits, including 19 doubles and 18 home runs. He also had 68 RBIs for the second consecutive season and scored 56 runs. All told, Lucroy led the Cajuns in seven different statistical categories. He also is the school's career RBI leader with 184. He holds the single-season school record with 174 total bases.

He had 3 1 multi-hit games this Lisa Huntley led a Texas junior college to the Division III national title in 2003. By JOE WILLIAMS SENTINEL STAFF WRITER Maybe it was fate or fortune, but little did Lisa Huntley realize when she brought her mother to Lake County for a fishing trip in late December that six months later, she would be hired as the new women's volleyball coach at Lake-Sumter Community College. Huntley, whose hiring was announced last week by LSCC Athletic Director Mike Matulia, was bringing her mother, Sarah, to Tavares, because her mother likes to fish and they wanted to fish the lakes in the county together. "This was so neat that out of all the places in Florida, we went to Tavares to go fishing," Huntley said. "When I came up for the interview with LSCC, I even stayed in the same hotel that we stayed in when we were there fishing." Fate or fortune? How about this: The job of the Lakers' volleyball coach came tied with a faculty position at the school, where she will coordinate the campus intramural program and assist with campus recreation.

Huntley has a bachelor of science degree in leisure services and studies from Florida State, but she has not had an opportunity to use the degree since she got into coaching. Now she can do both. "I am a recreation major," said Huntley, who applied for the job in April and is scheduled to begin working at LSCC on July 2. "When I got into coaching, I put aside that career. I saw the opportunity at Lake-Sumter to combine both.

I still love country in 2002, and we were the 2003 national champions." One of the aspects of the job Huntley is looking forward to is being able to recruit her first team next year. Huntley said it is her desire to make the Lakers annual contenders for the state tournament. "Of course, you always want to produce a team to the best that it can be," Huntley said. "Being a player and being a coach, I like to play at the highest level to compete. I would love for our team at Lake-Sumter to be in contention for the state tournament.

This will be one of the first goals I want to attain. "I want us to go to the Dance the national tournament." She said she will look for quality players and will add some height to the program. "I believe in my ability to recruit different players," Huntley said. "I believe in the contacts that I have. My goal will be to bring in quality athletes student-athletes.

If you don't have players coming into your program who have the abilities athletically and academically to successfully move on to the next level, you aren't doing your job properly. "I want to help these girls attain their goals at going onto the next level. "I think I have connections to have my players move on to four-year schools," she said. "At Louisiana Tech, we had a 100 percent graduation rate. Everyone that came in with me and was there when I was there graduated 100 percent." Huntley said one of her first priorities after getting to LSCC will be to meet with the players and to get them on her summer workout program.

It now has a coach to head up its volleyball program who not only has college coaching experience, but has coached on the NCAA Division I level, working as the head coach at Louisiana Tech from 1998-2000, and has coached a junior-college team, Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Texas, to the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division III national championship in 2003. She also comes with an extensive playing background, being selected the MVP at the University of Tennessee in 1980 and '81, playing international volleyball and being invited to try out for the USA Olympic team in 1987. Huntley was looking to make the jump from a Division III junior-college program to one like Lake-Sumter's, which is a Division I junior-college program.

The difference is that Division I schools can offer athletic scholarships. Division III programs have no athletic scholarships. "I was wanting to coach at the Division I level on the junior colleges," Huntley said. "Here at Cedar Valley, we have no athletic scholarships. Division I is full scholarships, Division II is partial scholarships and Division III is no scholarships.

"The teams that I produced here at Cedar Valley, we competed against D-I, D-II and D-III schools. We traveled to tournaments in Chicago and in Minnesota.
