and Failure or Else You- Are. Disloyal Says Dictator Clark' Howell. Says Dictator Clark Howell in his editorial Thursday morning IN THIS CONTEST THERE IS ONLY ONE ISSUE LOYALTY. In the state of Mississippi the people take out Senator James Vda- man and put in his place Congressman-B. B.

P. Harrison. Their choice is hailed as a triumph of loyalty. In the state of Georgia the people are told by. Dictator Howell that they must turn down Congressman William.

Schley Howard whose record is identically the same as Congressman Harrison's record and prove their. loyalty by voting for William 3. Harris. Given a choice- in Mississippi betweeen Congressman Harrison. or Ex- Governor Noel as the rival candidates opposing Senator Vardaman the people of that sovereign state exercised their right without dictation and elected Harrison.

Denied their right to make a free choice between William J. Harris or Congressman Howard as the rival candidates opposing Senator HardwickV the people of Georgia must accept the decree of Dictator Howell and vote for his candidate or else he will brand them in his newspaper as disloyal Americans. Georgia farmers who are producing more food than they ever produced. before to help win the war must vote for Mr. Harris whether they consider him the right man or not or else be branded by Dictator Howell as disloyal Americans.

Georgia wage earners who are investing their savings in War Stamps and Liberty Bonds to help win the- war must vote for Mr Harris whether they consider him the right man or not or else be branded by Dictator Howell as disloyal Americans. Georgia fathers with sons in Prance giving their lives to protect the democraticrights of free men throughout the world must vote for Mr. Harris whether they consider him the right man or not or else be branded by Dictator Howell as disloyal- Americans. The people mow' that William J. Harris made a.

failure as a business man when he and John D. Walker ran on the rocks a- fire insurance company into which' unfortunate investors had put nearly' 200000 of hard- earned cash. The people know that' William J. Harris made a failure as chairman of the Federal Trade Commission wastingmoney in an investigation of gas- pline that sent the price soaring from14. cents to 26 cents a gallon wasting money in an investigation of coal that resulted in the famous advice given out by Mr.

Harris for the people not to buy when coal was heap wasting nearly 500000 in an investigation of the high cost of food that was not worth the paper on which the commissions report was written. The people know that. William J. Harris failedto discover the gigantic profiteering alleged to have been conducted by the Chicago meat packers. After Mr.

Harris left the Trade Commission that body submitted' to. the United States Senate on June 291918 the following report Five meat packers Armour Swift Morris Wilson and Cudahy and their subsidiary and affiliated companies have monopolized the meat industry and are reaching for like domination in other. products. Their manipulations of the market embrace every device that is useful to them without regard to law. Their reward expressed in terms of profit reveals that four of these concerns have pocketed in 19151916 and 1917 140000900.

If Mr. Harris is really so great and influential as he claims why did he not use his greatness and employ his influence to stop this gigantic profiteering Why did he let it run three years Where was he when all of this alleged looting. of the public pocketbook was taking place The people know that he was voting very scant attention either to the meat packers or any of the other business monopolies but on the contrary was running back and forth to Georgia political gatherings interviewing editors and buttonholing politicians in preparation for his grand debut as a senatorial candidate. The people know that William 3. Harris has made a failure in his attempts to discuss on the stump the campaign issues or on the stump the problems of reconstruction that will follow the war or discuss on the stump any merit of his own or experience of his own or claim.

of his own except the letter of President- Wilson. The people know that. this letter which Dictator Howell has flagrantly distorted by going so far as actually to CHANGE ITS LANGUAGE. was secured from the President through Howell's connivance with Ed T. Brown.

each of them a political trickster whose motives and methods are common knowledge throughout the state. 1 Hardwick has opposed the interests of the farmers while Howard has- supported the interests of the farmers. Hardwick- has never proven him self the friend of the wage-earners while Howard has always fought for. their betterment. Hardwick has opposed.

the interests of the business men while Howard has faithfully supported their interests Hardwick has opposed the Wilson administration while Howard has supported it with loyalty as unswerving as any member of the' national congress. Hardwick has fought the paramount measures to prepare the- nation for the conduct of the war while Howard has supported' each and every one of those measures. What the people of Georgia wanted him to lo in the American Senate Hardwick has refused to do. What the people of his congressional dis jet and of the whole state wanted him to do in the American. House of Representatives Howard has done faithfully and well.

Across this choice as plain as the parting of' two highroads runs the counter claim of William 3. Harris. He has no record and no experience in national legislation but you must. vote for him or Dictator Howell will burn your forehead with the brand of disloyalty. He has no success of any kind to his credit either in business or as a member of the Federal Trade Commission but you must.

vote r1iIth or Dictator Howell will' hold you up to contempt and' scorn for being disloyal.
