Senate in 2012 U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson told editors and reporters Wednesday that seek a third term. Several Republicans, buoyed by the 2010 election results, are already considering a run against Nelson, a Democrat who came to the Senate after serving as state insurance commissioner and as a member of the U.S. House and Florida Legislature.

Associated Press An Orlando judge Wednesday temporarily sealed the manuscript of a tell-all book ousted Florida GOP Chairman Jim Greer was trying to sell to a publisher. Greer, 48, is awaiting trial on charges he set up a shell company and used it to steal $125,000 from the party. Defense attorneys say innocent. When Greer was arrested June2 in his Oviedo home, state agents confiscated several computers. One contained what agents described as the start of a manuscript to intimate knowledge of Governor and the conservative takeover of the Florida GOP.

One computer file was titled and another Rise and Fall of the Moderate Wing of the Republican according to investigative records. Two weeks ago, Greer was in court when his attorney, Don Lykkebak, asked Orange- Osceola Circuit Judge Marc Lubet to seal the writings, saying they were trade secrets. The materials will remain a secret until jury is empaneled, Lubet wrote. In court paperwork, defense attorneys contend that Delmar Johnson III, the executive director of the party during much of tenure and his business partner, may be a criminal but that Greer is not. Greer and Johnson owned Victory Strategies, the company that prosecutors contend Greer set up in 2009 as a way to embezzle money from the party after its board of directors give him another raise.

If there was a crime, defense attorneys argue in court pleadings, Johnson committed it when he sent monthly invoices to the party on behalf of Victory and accepted payment. Just because he then gave most of the money to Greer, that does not make the former chairman a criminal, they wrote. Johnson is the star witness. The Office of Statewide Prosecution agreed not to file charges against him in exchange for his cooperation. Rene Stutzman can be reached at rstutzman or 407-650-6394.
