Albert Staton was unanimously elected to lead the Gold and White basket tossers through th 1821 season. No better choice than Albert could haye been made to fill ex Captain Gibby" Fraser's shoes. for Staton was the only member of the Tech squad who played In every game on th Tech schedule this year. hen the Tech team played both the Clemson college and the Clemson Y. SUPPOSED TO SR. SOMS OP NO WOULD PETRELS ARE CERTAIN Chief Turk and Lucien Hope Both Showing Up Well in Practice. Do Bob Nlelaolea. The Oglethrpe Petrels staged their first practice game of the 1920 season Thursday afternoon when they encountered the Fifth division team of Camp Gordan. The game was played at the army post and re suited in a 5 to 3 victory for Ogle- tifOrpe.

While It was merely a practice affair and is the first of a series of games Coach Anderson plans to stage in order to round his pro- teges in shape for the college season which starts March 30. The game gave Anderson some idea as to how his cand dates will stand up under fire and he was fairly well pleased with the result. It seems that the Petrels will again have a very dependable batter In Lucian Hope. the first string catcher. Slope lilt.

Well. Hope got two clean hits during the play and shows signs of duplicating his teal' of 1918. when he led the Petrels in hatting with an average of 392. He Is not a batter of the slugger type. but he hits consistently and the a come with market regularity.

Hope should have little trouble In batting above the 300 mark again this season. He was captain of the 1918 team. Another encouraging feature of the game was the fact tltar Captain Turk seems to have lost none of his effectiveness in the pitching line. lie started the game and worked smoothly for several In flings finally giving away to a re cruit by the- name of Swlth. It will secure every assistance possible for the betterment. of the game and close relationship with the American Polo association will be kept. Polo has been played in the army for a number of years. but never has received the proper support. This was due mainly to the tact that suitable mounts for this game could not be obtained in large enough numbers to properly equip the en tire fortes.

With the co operation of the re mount service no trouble in getting the proper animal stock for this game will be encountered. It Is the intention of the polo director that horses who show the least aptitude will be trained and all means possible will be used to develop them into successful mounts for this branch of sport. Formal announcement was made by Higgins at he had signed Monte Prleste for the coming season. Several of the Cracker players and all of the sporting scribes at the Atlanta camp journeyed to New Orleans Friday morning and saw the Pelicans work out for a few hours. Prominent among the Pets at Heinemann field is Pug" Allen a member of the Georgia Tech Golden Tornado during the gridiron season of 1917. Pug has had quite a career in professional baseball circles. joining said pastime the summer after he received his sheepskin at Tech. Signed by Dodgers. He was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers after he had finished at Tech. but was sent to the International league a few weeks later.
