Fuller of Chicago for chief Justice but the vote by which he was confirmed today shows that even the republican members of the senate recognized him an able jurist and eminently fit man for the place. The vote stood one for to twenty against confirmation. As was expected the democratic members of the senate deemed It unnecessary to speak and therefore none entered Into the lonjt debate. On the republican id Senators Cullom and Farewell made strong upeeches in favor of his confirmation while Edmunds Stewart and Evarto opposed Nataral1y the latter were somewhat bitter but their opposition proved-of no avail. The democrats are uantmoUi of the opinion that Chief Justice Fuller la the ablest selection that could have beep mado There were eight republicans voted with the democrats to confirm him.

July 20. Tfip loss of life from he flood last night is atleast twenty- five About fifteen bodies have bien. found so far. The money loss is about 9150000. The greatest loss of life was along heeling creek and at Triadolphia.

A search this morning re sutted in the discovery of a number of bodies near the latter place. Most of them were found among the drift which" collected at ElDY Grove. The body of William Gaston aged sixty years a prominent and wealthy Derson was found near Elm Grove. His wife remains were found two miles below Elm Grove' hanging on a barbed wire fence" Charles Caul- bell of tle Wheeling News Letter aged 50 was found among the drift wood. Mrs Jane Fay and her two grown ap daughters Alice and Mary were discovered a short distance below Tridelpl1ia and the bodies of two brothers named Gorman were found in a meadow where they had been hurled by the furious waters Later and authentic details from.

Triadelphia show that destruction was more appalling there than anywhere else. Fifteen families are homeless and. saved nothing but what they had on. Half this village-of 600 inhabk tanu was swept away but all bat those before named escaped to the hills The storm ex tended sixteen miles east of West Alexander Pa. and the scene nil along the way Is one ot desolation and inconceivable horror.

Where. the TriadeIphla scboolhouse a large building of six rooms stood the creek is now a raging flood and not a vestige of even the foundation remains The whole south HALF OF THE TOWN HAS DISAPPJUItD as clear as if It never existed. The Wheeling relief committee which recently raised funds for the Rowlesburg sufferers expended the balance for provisions and sent them to Triadelphia. The Baltimore and Ohio railroad Pittsburg division is practically destroyed for fifteen miles. The Western Union Telegraph company lost two hundred miles of wire and most of its poles.

Six costly bridges were washed away. The track is lifted away from the bed and twisted into all shapes for miles at a stretch. In some places it is impossible to say what damage has been done. Only an occasional gap is seen on high and solid ground. The entire bed is badly washed.

Interest centers in the wreck of the- Baltimore and Ohio bridges over Wheeling creek at Main street and the fatalities which attended that disaster. Several of those on the bridge were doubt less strangers in the city attracted by curiosity and their absence was not noticed. So far as be definitely known there were four men and three boys not since heard from on the bridge when went down. The creek is still dangerous bridges caved in and telephone and telegraph hues are down. The fall of water from to 6 55 o'clock by tbe gauge was 6 inches. Tho letter referred to accused the speaker of gross.

injustice to the minority and. of a breach of parlia. meutary decorum nothing short of public scandalln assisting the government to suppress debate on a measure. which handed to- the Irish landlords hall a million of English money Mr. Coney Ware admitted that he was the author of the letter.

Lord Randolph Churchill thereupon moved the suspension of Mr. Coueybeare- from the' house during the reminder of the seWn The letter be said was a gross libel on the speaker and a grave and deliberate insult to the house The speaker said that the adoption of the closure was an act of the house. In dealing. with the matter he held an absolutely neutral position and he left the affair to the judgment of the house Cheers. Mr Gladstone deprecated the invective as wholly out of place in this discussion The letter was distinctly a breach of privilege and he would therefore support Lord Randolph Churchill's motion.

Mr. Labouchere move to substitute in the motion the words Breach of privilege for the words Gr ss libel. Mr. Sexton said that no act seemed to be a breach of privilege when committed against an Irish member. As Irish members could obtain no redress for slanders uttered in or written outside of.

the house the best course they could adopt was to leave the English' members of parliament to settle. disputes among themselves. Mr Sextons remarks were greeted with laughter and derisive cheers. during which Mr. Sexton left the house.

Mr W. H. Smith' held that Mr. Coneybeare's letter was a direct libel. upon the speaker of the house and that the adoption ot Lord Randolph Churchill's motion was sary to maintain decorum in parliament The motion was adopted by a rote of 245 to 168 An amendment was afterward adopted to suspend Mr Coneybeare for one month.
