Edwards A man wanted in the deadly robbery of an Iraq war veteran in Puerto Rico was arrested this week in Central Florida by federal marshals. ReynoelFigueroa-Leon, 24, was wanted on a three-count federal indictment charging him with corruptly obstructing an official proceeding, accessory after the fact and possession of a firearm with a prior conviction. He was arrested Tuesday afternoon by U.S. marshals in Winter Park. The indictment alleges Figueroa- Leon altered, destroyed, mutilated and concealed a Smith and Wesson caliber pistol to impair its use in a federal grand jury investigation into a carjacking that resulted in the death of Jose Waldemar Cruz-Colon.

According to FBI Special Agent Harry Rodriguez, Cruz-Colon was at a bar in Guanica, Puerto Rico, on Dec. 9, 2007. Cruz-Colon, 42, drove away from the bar, but then pulled to the side of the road. Several people who also had been at the bar were walking nearby and approached Cruz-Colon and asked if he was OK. The people agreed to take Cruz-Colon home but Rodriguez said.

Instead, they took him to a secluded area, robbed him of his jewelry and money and then shot him, the special agent said. Cruz-Colon, also known as served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Rodriguez said. The investigation is ongoing and no other details about the case were publicly available. Figueroa-Leon was being held at the Seminole County jail. A detention hearing is set for Monday.
