Although the football situation at Auburn la still In pretty much of an unsettled condition. it looks as If the Plainsmen will put an outfit on the field which will stack up to no disadvantage with the Tiger elevens of past years and there have been some good ones. It also seems even at this distance that the type of play employed by the Auubrnltes will follow along the old familiar route an Immense line.

capable of holding Its own with any group of forwards In the south and the backfield. while not exactly a negligible quantity overshadowed to some extent by the great line in front" of It both on the offense and the defense. Of the men lost to the team for the season of 1920. one has departed to other fields who leaves a yawning chasm In his mighty wake a chasm seemingly so bottomless that it will take years to fill. That man.

gentle reader. as you no doubt have already surmised Is Pete Bonner a time Auburn captain and a four time southern" tackle. Much has been said about the worth of this cotton topped marvel. but words failed In an attempt to estimate the true value of Pete Donner to a football team. In every line' play Pete's Silk hair could be seen bobbing In and out smashing the Interference Into small bits and then nailing the man in the bargain The fight and strength tie imparted to his otes faltering at a critical moral Is incomputable.

Bonner Ix Gridiron. Perhaps you rc5ave the opinion that this is golttffio some length concerning a player who will never again grace a southern gridiron. And perhaps you are right but Jt is extremely difficult to let a player of Bonners great ability give up the gridiron game for the sterner things in life without more than a passing comment. Right at the present it looks as If all the other linemen. with the exception of Ike' Rogers who took care of the other tackle position last year.

At center Kate Caton. bigger and stronger than ever will more than likely be among those present when the names of the players taking part in the first game of 1920 are scrutinized by1 football- hungry fans. Injuries handicapped this really great football player to a great extent last year keeping him out of nearly all the games.

The games he took part in however brought out the tact that as a snapper back he must bow down to no man In the south. With his old wound. a painful Injury to his leg. entirely healed he should take his rank at the head of southern centers Flanking Caton on one side will be Fat Warren who will no douBt be to to their great mental anguish by Georgia Tech supporters. It must be admitted that Warren played the very game of his life in the memorable Turkey day battle of a ear ago.

but he Is going to start the season this ear with the firm resolution of making' all his struggles repetitions of the Tech battle at least tdr his part- and It he does look out for the corpulent one. He Is a veritable tower of strength on his side of the line and many an ambitious line up has been shattered to fragments on his manly chest.

Here's where the rub comes. As aforesaid Pete Bonner at one tackle has gone and it is very improbable that lke Rogers. the other tackle of last year. will ever- don the cleated shoes again even in the bare possibility that he returns to school. Ike had a knee that had the very inconvenient habit of jumping out of place at critical moments and It is very improbable that that member will ever heal en tirely.

The post is scheduled to call for a long. rangy chap with plenty of weight and likewise plenty of speed. Sloan possesses plenty of the tatter but as for height and weight he tails somewhat short. He will probably weigh about 170 pounds when the season opens.
