The manufacture of crlllnals out of juvenile delinquents has got to be topped On the other hand. there Is a streak of sentimentality in the attitude of many good people toward the wrong-doer. There is a large measure of unpunished crime that tends to break down public justice. This very subject of murder is stin an acute problem in our own United States. fl. He must cut to 15 players by open- Ing- day. which means that seven more are to go. There has been a slight doubt In the minds of some fans as whether or not Charley has assembled a hitting aggregation this season. If those doubters could just Journey to Ponce de Leon park some after.

noon and see Messrs. Mayer Gooch Bratchl. Chrlstenbury and Herndon whale the sphere they wouldn't remain In the doubter class very long. Unless the dope Is far wrong those are the boys who are going to do the 300 hitting this season and it will not take them long to prove the assertion. You couldn't exactly call Franks 1919 infield a million dollar organ- izatlon because it didn't cost so very much but there is one thing about the bunch who are going to.

handle the inner gardens they have made about one error in all of their practice games thus far and are fielding like demons. There have been times when even a million dollars wouldn't buy that much In the Southern league. Some soldiers who have turned from France have told miraculous tales about seeing the shells as they whistle through the atmosphere. You can hear em all right. but the man who.

sees them has had a wonderful optical Illusion. The closest Atlanta baseball tans will ever- get to seeing anything like a bullet or shell is when they see th tire of one Harris Thorburn. We have Rawson. the sturdy who a ures us that the man who sees Thorburns fast ones is going to have to. make his orbs travel mighty fast.

He un possesses the same peg to second which has won him undying praises and works his pitchers In the same way. but the ravages of influenza.

are not to be scoffed at and the doctors tell Doe that he should go slow for a few weeks yet. In the event Rawson works Atlanta tans are going to see Charley latest boy receiver and realize that after all Is' said the Dutch' man is some picker. He should be' one of the most popular members of the 1919 Crackers. With the Crackers ready and all plans made to care for the record- breaking crowd which is going to attend the opener it begins to- look like Thursday is going to see a baseball jollification such as has been witnessed here in ery few years during the past.

Merchants are beginning- to open up their hearts fox' their employees. and it is an assured fact that very few people who want to see the getaway of the Crackers at Poucey will be. disappointed. They al agree that this is just too big a thing to be disappointed in. are still getting telegrams from other managers throughout th circuit telling of their indecision and trouble in getting their lineups together.
