969-533 NEW YORK, July 17 "Kids are taking over," said Annette Funicello, a dark-eyed, full-busted young lady who is 15 years old and whose first record "How Will I Know My Love" is in the top 40 already. Annette is typical of the younger crowd that is elbowing all the older crowd that's anyone who has turned 20 out of business. She has been a Mousketeer since Walt Disney started "The Mickey Mouse Club," which is to say three years. She's about to start her first feature film, "Shaggy Dog." She's been dancing since she was five years old. Sh's got an L.P.

on the market. She gets 5,000 fan letters a month. SHE'S TYPICAL In other words, she's a typical young teen-ager of the upcoming generation and I thought I ought to find out how she lived because we didn't live like that when I was a boy. "All the kids are turning to singing, she said. "Like Darlene Gillespie She's a Mousketeer too.

Or Laurie Collins. Do you know Laurie Collins?" I said no, I'd never heard of Laurie Collins. "She's going out with Ricky now," she explained. I felt pleased that I knew who Ricky is. He's Ricky Nelson, the teen-age son of Ozzie and Harriet whose records are red hot.

"And then there's Paul Anka." I was at sea again. I never heard of Paul Anka who, I was told, was not only a singer but who wrote his own songs and was all of 17 years Annette is the only Mous keteer left of the 24 tha started with Disney thre-years ago. THERE WERE 24 "When I started there were 24. "Then Mr. Disney dwindled us to 16, then to nine.

Now they've all been let go except me." DINING to "Howdy rJoody." The kids grew up and forgot Kids are fickle that way. And the same thing, I pointed out, threatens the "Mickey Mouse Club" and the Mousketeers. "The audience ought to grow up with the performers," suggested Annette. "Like with Ricky Nelson. He was 8 when he started and look at him now." Annette has no great fear of being superseded yet.

Eventually, she'd like to be a dramatic actress. At the moment she's touring the country plugging Disney's picture, "Light in the Forest." In Albany for instance, she was part of a big show called "Tower of Talent" Famous STEAK HOUSE 2040 KolokoiM Ava 990-617 heavenly food COMPLETE DINNERS 50 FOOD The Federal Communications Commission yesterday granted the application for a new radio station to be operated by Ala Moana Broadcasting Company, the Associated Press reported. A couple of years ago, saying you liked jazz could brand you as a semi-delinquent. The word has a pretty miserable connotation but now jazz is a product for home consumption. Despite its growing popularity jazz has a long way to go. America's earx isn't yet tuned to jazz completely. Blame, if you must, the fact that many people really don't know what jazz is.

Some think it's interchangeable with rock roll, not having heard it They don't understand it, and they're afraid of it, because it's only natural to fear something you don't understand.
