BIG CUT IN COTTON. Fields Are Full of Grass Sayt Farmers' Union Head. Douglas Ga. June 1 Special. iRe- turning to the headquarters of the Georgia State Farmers' Union from an extensive tour of' Georgia.

President J. Brown has sounded a strong warning to the farmers. President Brown states that he had never found the cotton fields Of Georgia so full of grass as they are at this' time. There are thousands of acres he said. that were planted In' cotton that are.

now being plowed up and re planted in peas. sorghum cane and other things because the grass has gotten ahead of the farmers and they realize that there would not be any ield of the staple to speak of. Lr Fertilizer lard. As to the extent the crop in this state would be cut this year 11 Brown said' In the first place. the acreage was cut.

I believe- at least' 30' per cent about 45 per cent less fertilizer was used than last year. The crops on the average throughout the state are in the worst condition they have ever been' at this- time of year and for these reasons I believe that the crop will yield at least 40. per cent less than' did the 1914 crop. These conditions or bad fields and poor stands were worse in middle and south Georgia. said Mr.

Drown. He ed that. the grassy condition would In itself reduce the yield 25 per cent this. year over last The farmers generally are. diversifying more extensively than usual- he said.

and while corn has. been damaged to some extent by the rains and consequent grass it will be a fairly. Rood yield. especially in north Georgia. I believe that unless there Is a system of rural credits perfei ted for the farmers at once the tall of 1915 will find general financial- conditions worse than they have been in many years said Mr.

Brown. Continuing. he' said that in order to meet the situation and handle it with the least possible- Injury to all It would be absolutely necessary that the farmers organize in every militia district of the state. The officials of the State Farmers' union are anxious to enroll 60000 to members before the' marketing of the crop. TRAINING FOR NEGROES STRESSED' BY STINSON Gainesville.
