B4 Sunday Local News Orlando Sentinel Sunday, December 8, 2013 final FHP identifies Palm Bay couple killed on U.S. 1 The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the Palm Bay couple hit by a car and killed as they crossed U.S. Highway 1 toward Yellow Dog Cafe on Thursday night Carl Burch, 77, and Mary Burch, 70, died at the scene. "The impact was severe said FHP Sgt Kim Montes. "My lieutenant said it was probably one of the worst pedestrian crashes he's ever seen." A friend said Mary was funny and religious.

"She just lived life to the fullest," Tracey Flemming said. After her husband died, Mary married Carl in 2009. "We know they're with the Lord," Flemming said. They were hit by a 1993 Toyota driven by Marquese Turner, 25. There is no nearby crosswalk.

Lt Channing Taylor said Turner was likely driving at or near the 50-mph speed limit No charges have been filed as investigation continues. On Tuesday, Mary said this on Facebook "I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I know one thing: I know my Master is there, and that is enough. When that door opens, I will pass through it with gladness, and with no fear." Florida Today Gov. Rick Scott may get $1 billion budget boost It appears Gov. Rick Scott will have more than $1 billion in extra money to work with when he begins crafting his budget recommendations for the legislative session that begins in the spring.

Officials added $324.3 million to expected tax revenues during the current budget year, which ends June 30, and the fiscal year that begins the next day. Because lawmakers have already passed a budget covering this year, all of the new money should be available for the spending plan that starts in July. Lawmakers were already expected to have a windfall of $845.7 million next year, even after anticipated spending in areas such as education and $1 billion in reserves was taken into account. The new estimates would push that close to $L2 billion, though a firm number likely won't be available until meetings next week to determine whether public schools and health-care programs will need more money. The added income will presumably make it easier for Scott to sell his plan to slice taxes and fees by $500 million.

It will also give lawmakers room to fund their own ideas ahead of the November elections. Still, officials played down the possibility of a spending spree. News Service of Florida GARY W. GREEN STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER Sniffing out potential owners at Pet-A-Palooza A dog awaits adoption Saturday at Pet-A-Palooza at Seminole State College in Sanford. Heart drops out of SeaWorld concert after online pressure "While we're disappointed a small group of misinformed individuals was able to deny fans what would have been a great concert by Heart at SeaWorld, we respect the band's decision," Nick Gollattscheck, SeaWorld Orlando's director of public relations, said in a statement.

"The band and artists have a standing invitation to visit any of our parks to see firsthand or to speak to any of our animal experts to learn for themselves how we care for animals and how little truth there is to the allegations made by animal extremist groups opposed to the zoological display of marine mammals," he added. Other acts scheduled to come to SeaWorld include Cheap Trick, REO Speedwag-on, Justin Moore, Scotty McCreery, Martina McBride and 38 Special. Heart wasn't on the original list of performers. But the band's departure was significant enough for Change.org to release a statement Saturday, One of the band's signature songs is "Crazy on You," which in 1976 became Heart's first commercial hit. Change.org's statement said: "Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson confirmed that the band had canceled their SeaWorld performance on Twitter earlier today." The tweet didn't specifically mention the "Blackfish" controversy.

"The Sea World show was planned long ago as an Orlando show," the tweet said. "Had we known, we'd have said no then. We said no today. Love you all." By Kevin P. Connolly Staff Writer Sorry, classic rockers.

Nancy Wilson and sister Ann will not be going crazy in Orlando. At least not at the 2014 edition of SeaWorld Orlando's Bands, Brew BBQ Festival set to begin Feb. 1. Heart on Saturday became the third act to bow out of the festival amid online pressure prompted by the documentary "Blackfish," which is critical of the park's treatment of killer whales. Country singer Willie Nelson canceled Thursday.

Barenaked Ladies announced earlier that it had scrubbed its appearance because of the "Blackfish" controversy. Orlando brewer taps extra capacity By Jeff Houck The Tampa Tribune Orlando and Tampa craft brewers and a brew-pub chain looking to expand its footprint in Florida are the first clients announced for a new manufacturing facility slated to open next year. Construction is ongoing at the Brew Hub facility on South Frontage Road in Lakeland, adjacent to Interstate 4. When completed in May, it will provide a model similar to contract brewing, in which growing breweries use manufacturing capacity at another company to meet demand. The concept allows craft brewers to grow steadily without incurring the debt that comes with building new facilities.

Thursday at the Brewbound craft-brewing conference in San Diego, Brew Hub CEO Timothy Schoen announced three clients who have contracted to use the facility for the first year: Cigar City Brewing of Tampa, Orange Blossom Pilsner of Orlando and California-based BJ's Restaurant Brewhouse. The three are expected to brew a combined 40,000 barrels of beer annually. The brewery will have an annual capacity of 75,000 barrels, or 1 million cases, and will be the first of five regional Brew Hubs across the country. Cigar City recently spent $4 million to expand its brewing capacity and buy a second canning line, but has had difficulty meeting demand for its Jai Alai IPA and other varieties. Customer demand is so strong in Florida that it has forced the company to pull back from distribution in Georgia, New York, Virginia and other states to focus on its home market.

Although Cigar City has collaborated with breweries outside Florida, Schoen said the Brew Hub arrangement will be the first time that it will produce beers outside of its own facility on Spruce Street in Tampa and its brew pub in Carrollwood. "These guys are a perfect fit with us," Schoen said. Orange Blossom Pilsner started in founder Tom Moench's garage in 1978. The brand predates the current craft-beer boom, but the company has methodically built a loyal following during the past decade in and around Orlando. Orange Blossom is currently brewed by Thomas Creek Brewery, a Greenville, S.C., contract brewer.

Using Brew Hub will allow Moench to make more beer and hire additional sales staff and grow his distribution area, Schoen said. "We looked at his brand portfolio, and he fits our philosophy," he said. "He's strategically lined up to grow and hopefully we'll help make that happen." BJ's Restaurants of Huntington Beach, Calif, operates a chain of 151 brew pubs, including pubs in Citrus Park, Pinellas Park and Clearwater. The menu features house beers made through contract breweries. Using Brew Hub's facilities will allow the chain, which is traded on the NASDAQ, to at least double the 15 restaurants it operates in Florida, Schoen said.

"Florida is an emerging piece of their growth engine," he said. "Signing with us is putting a stake in the ground to grow their Florida business and expand their footprint in the southeast." Jim Johnson Jr. was last seen at 9:45 am Friday at 'Move-over' law could expand Motorists would have to slow down or move over a lane when approaching a parked utility vehicle under a proposal filed Friday by Sen. Greg Evers, R-Baker.

The measure would require utility crews to be engaged in tasks related to the purposes of the vehicles. Florida's "Move Over" law requires motorists to slow down to a speed that is 20 mph less than the posted limit when the limit is 25 mph or greater or to move over a lane when they approach emergency vehicles parked along the sides of roads. News Service of Florida Display at Capitol counters Nativity The Freedom From Religion Foundation has brought in a seasonal display for the first-floor rotunda of the Florida Capitol after the Florida Prayer Network put up a Nativity scene of the birth of Jesus Christ The foundation, which advocates for non-believers and promotes the separation of church and state, said its "Bill of Rights nativity" banner was a counter to the Nativity. "We don't mind sharing the season with Christians, but we don't like this pretense that it's all about the birth of a Christian god," FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor said.
