Vigorous protest against the city's construction of public school buildings day labor under the supervision of the building Inspector was made by the' Muter Builders' Association of Atlanta In a letter to the board of education read at yesterdays meeting of the board. The communication called attention to the fact that on May 1. 1915. the city advertised for bids for the construction of an room school building on Metropolitan avenue two four- room buildings one on Milton avenue and the other on Marietta street and one of six rooms on Luelle avenue and it recalled the fact that at II. recent meeting of the school board a resolution was adopted favoring the employment of day labor in the construction of the Milton and Luelle avenue structures.

This being the last regular meeting of the board before the close of the school year. considerable time was consumed in hearing reports of officials and organizations connected with the school system chief among which were the reports of Dr. Atkins. the school physician Miss Laura Smith. primary supervisor and Mrs.

Dr. Atkins' report had to do with a system of examination he has Just completed Into the condition of the teach- era with reference to tuberculosis. He reported that 115 colored teachers had been examined. none of whom were found to be afflicted with tuberculosis and out- of 580 white teachers. no case of infectious tuberculosis was found.

Particularly did the report express regret for the lack of proper industrial training in these schools. As a first step toward Improvement in this respect Superintendent Landrum suggested that either the Taylor street of the Young street school toe used exclusively for industrial training for negro pupils aft the seventh grade.

Board Compliment MUa Brown. Mr Krlegshaber announced the resignation of Miss Cora Brown as president of the board of lady visitors. and the chairman of the board was authorized to appoint a committee of three to draft a set of resolutions expressing the boards appreciation or Miss Browns work for the schools and its regret as her resignation Miss Smith reported that the special classes during the year had accommodated a total of 72 retarded sub-normal or deficient children and have at the present time 52 enrolled. There are four special classes limited to a membership of fourteen pupils each. During the year 61 children were ex amined for physical infirmities.

Of these. 33 were found to be defective and 20 were treated by operations us ually for the removal of adenoids or tonsils The board received and formally recommended the acceptance of a tender by the Exposition Cotton mills by Al len F. The convention will hold another business meeting this morning at the Hotel Ansley when officers for the en suing year will be chosen. The convention will close at noon. May 25 The fifty. sixth general assembly of the Presbyterian church in the United States to day stood solidly on its decision reached Tuesday regarding woman's activity In the church cleared sortie routine matters and adjourned. The womarn question was reopened in form of a protest backed by about fifty commissioners and led by Dr.

W. Mclo' Alexander the retiring moderator. The protest committee requested that its statement of disagreement merely be flied in the records of the assembly but the commissioners re fused to do this. voting to refer the matter to a special committee. This committee reported within a short time clearly setting forth that it was be.

The protest resulted from the assembly granting certain privileges to women in the discretion of congregations. It was declared that too great latitude was given congregations in a. matter the Protestants- believed should be left to the assembly.

After the upper was over the pipers went Into the cottage and gave a splendid concert and exhibition A resolution was passed the Ninth Ward Improvement club at its meeting last night. favoring a division of the ward and making the tracks of the Georgia railroad the dividing line. The resolution embodies the formation of a new ward for the city.

to be called the eleventh ward. The decision was reached after It was shown the members that the ward as it Is at present Is far too large to get adequate work from the city. The resolution will be presented to council in the near future with the re quest that It be acted on favorably. The club passed another resolution requesting the ward delegation in council to keep in the apportionment sheet' the 10000 set aside for the Edgewood avenue bridge. It was reported that the finance committee contemplated taking this money from the sheet.

The club adjourned us such. when the subject of politics was presented. Out as individuals the discu ted a suitable man for council among themselves The section of the ward around Greenwood Avenue school favored F. E. Sfackle for council.
