the first bargain attraction of the season the locals winning the first game and the visitors the second. The losers In each fray were whitewashed. One of the best week-day crowds that have ever turned out to old Poncey witnessed the double mill and were treated to two splendid games of baseball. It was coincident that the doubleheader was the first shut-out game that the Crackers have figured in this season. It was the first time that the had shut out a team and It was th tint time they had been shut out any one else.

Also it was the first defeat that ha been recorded against Pitcher Ellis of the Nashville team. this season when the Crackers beat him in the opener. First Game. Playing errorless ball behind faultless pitching by Ed Lafltte. and hitting like fiends when hits meantruns th Crackers won the first game of th header.

6 to O. Lafltte was In the best of form of hi i career as a Cracker holding the Vote to four hits. two of them mere scratches. while eight of them were set down via the whiff route. In the second.

with two men on bases. and no one gone. big Ed whiffed Elian- Street and Marshall in succession. HI curve ball was a dream. and he an Perkins mixed them splendidly.

Ellis. of the Vole. was nicked by th Crackers for ten blngln. four of them two-sackers bunching seven of their ten hits In the first second and fifth In nlngs. A Great Catch.

Al Bridwell made his debut for th Crackers at short. played splendidly I the field. scored the Crackers' first run speeded up the entire Infield an generally proved himself an asset. A great running catch I deep center by Sammy Mayer of Wll Hams' long drive In the third Innln that robbed that worthy of a triple was the games fielding feature. A great stop at third by Lennox an a nice play in covering first by Lafitte were the other fielding features.

There was little to choose on th offense. The Crackers played good tear offensive. Mayer. Perkins. Moran an McDonald hitting In the pinches.

Dick Kauffman got the first six pu outs of the Y01 How They Scored. The Crackers got off to a three- run lead in the first inning with on gone. Al ridwell made his debut as Cracker by working Ellis for a free ticket. and when Kllam dropped El US' throw on McDonalds tap he reached second safely. Mayer cracked a single to left scor- Ing Bridwell and sending McDonald third.

Mayer took second on th throw to third. After Lennox poppe to Kauffman. Perkins doubled to center. scoring McDonald and Mayer. McMillan opened the Crackers" secon with a double.

Lafitte sacrificed. Moran singled. scoring McMlllan. Endwell sacrificed and McDonald doubled. scoring Moran.

Second liaiue. The second game was a pitchers battle between Scott Perry. for the Crackers and Herbert for the Vols with the latter haying the shade the best of it. The outcome was I to with the Crackers on the short end. Perry hurled great bull and deservei no worse than a tie but the one.

error thatthe Crackers made luring the en tire day put a Nashville man in post- tion to score and a single did the work. Herbert held the Crackers to two hits and fanned eight of them They had a splendid chance in the sixth Inning. but Williams In left was mile ou and nailed Sammy Mayer liner that was headed for the fence. Tex McDonald was paid a compll ment In this inning. when after Moran had been sacnified to second he a purposely walked.

Tex has been hit ting the ball on the nose of late am In Wednesdays header he hi four balls on a line that were hammered right at some one. Evidently the Vols figured It was best not take a chance that he would hammer one between fielders" at that stage. 1 panned out right. though Mayer's lie was of the hard luck caliber. 1 In this game McMiltan was switched to short and Clancy sent to second.

Manager Frank not thinking It wise to play Bridwell two games the first day out. MeMillans sensational field- ing featured the game aside from th work of the two pitchers.
