The professor therefore has the honor of hurling the Crakers above the five hundred mark rr the fir time this season. The inlv knuckle hall was breaking fine and the Chicks were as so much mud in Days hands The Chicks acted like Days obedient Arkansas scholars. They nicked his delivery for but three hits and two of these were the flukiest of the fluky. He should have had a shut out to hi credit. but the two Cracker errors followed one of his bases on balls and the Chicks escaped a shut out The final count was 6 to 1.

Sammy could not quite catch up with the ball. but as it was sailing past him he leaped forward into the air and speared the flying sphere for as sensational a catch as has been seen here In many a moon.

Just preceding this great catch by Mayer. Tommy McMillan pulled a one- handed leaping catch of a line drive by Barger that robbed the ancient Cy of a ase knock. The hitting of Frank Thrasher continued to be the feature of the attack. In the last eight times to the plate this fellow has reached first base. Announce Sermon to Be De livered by Dr. C. W. Daniel of Atlanta. Asheville.

N. C. May 16. Completion of the 11000000 fund to aid the 4000 homeless Baptist churches In' the south will be one of the principal subjects at the rst annual convention of the Southern Baptist church. which opens here tomorrow and continues through May 22.

Approximately one- third of this um already has been railed. according to preliminary re ports made public tonight by the Rev. Dr. Louis B. Warren of Atlanta su perlntendent of the department of church extension.

Another subject which probably will be considered will foe the proposed formation of an educational board as a separate organization from other boards within control of the convention. Many southern Baptists already here have voiced opposition to the es tLbiishment of such a board on the ground that such work is cared for by the home mission board and that to add another board would serve only to multiply the machinery. The board as planned would exercise general su pervislon over the educational work of the Baptist churches in the south. Tomorrows sessions will be devoted chiefly to election of officers and presentation of reports. Adoption of a program for the convention also will be taken up.

A tentative program has been prepared and Includes as the feature for tomorrow night delivery of the annual sermon by the Rev. Dr. Charles W. Daniel of Atlanta. Reports to toe made public at the opening sessions include those of the foreign mission board the home mission board.

the Sunday school board the laymen's movement and the woman's missionary union. the latter an auxiliary to the convention. The registration and assigning of delegates to homes took up the greater' part of today. The registration secretaries estimated tonight that 1500 delegates would attend the opening session tomorrow and that approximately 2000 would register during the convention. The delegates represent more than 2000000 persons of the Baptist faith.

CRIME UNDER DRY LAWS IS REDUCED IN LAUREN Dublin. Ga.

May 18. Special. So far. following the operation of the new prohibition law. there has been less crime than usual In Laurens.

Both city and county officers have had the quietest two weeks they have known In a long while. The disappearance of drunkenness cases from the recorder's court Is attributed to the new prohibition law. i Within the past week the number of shipments of whisky to Dublin was about the normal number under the old law. but the quantity of whisky will not amount to more than a fourth of what It was before. The regular drinkers have.

most of them. received their full legal amount for the month within the past few days and the umber or packages Is expected to drop oft within the next few day.
