Csi July 30. General Harrison Gray Otis. president and gen- eral manager of The Los Angeles Times. died today a the home of his son-in-law. Harry Chandler.

General Otis was being served ill breakfast In his bedroom and apparently felt the attack coming as a maid entered the room. Take away the tray 1 am gone. said and he died before either Mr. or Mrs. Chandler.

who were in another part of the house. could reach his side. Heart failure was said to have been the cause. Although he had Buffered occasions attacks of Illness recently. General Otis.

who was more than. 80 years old. had been at his desk in The Times office nearly every day within the lastfew weeks. General Otis is survived two daughters. Mrs.

Chandler and Mrs. Franklin Booth. of Los Angeles and 13 grandchildren. Last Christmas he gave his home in Los Angeles- for a public art gallery. General Otis' first venture as a news- paper publisher was in Marietta Ohio' in 3865.

Later he came to California. where he became editor and publisher of The Santa Barbara Press In 1876. He acquired an interest In The Los Angeles Times in 1882. and tour years lat- er organized The Times-Mirror com- pany. of which he became president and general manager.

He was a member of the Associated Press. Quite early in his career as editor and publisher of The Times. Otis came Into conflict with organized labor and thereafter until the day of his death he waged an unrelenting warfare for what he termed industrial freedom. On October 10 1910 his building and print. Ing plant was dynamited and twenty of his workmen killed.

Nunnally of this city. and who had many other friends in Floyd county. Mrs. Atkinson was married when a girl only 15 years of age an while she was at school. She ran away from her studies to get married.

She died In this county last year. leaving property valued at a large sum and a will toy which she disposed of It all to her brother. E. R. Cousins.
