Th Adret Fllber. of sull he lluiger dLJfc Vcapln4 From the Dublin The following story of the adventures of an old sturgeon fisher is couched for and told our reporter by two very reliable gentlemen of this county. The time of the story goes back over two years and the scene was a Skull shoals not many miles above the ferry at Dublin.

The name of the old gentleman who by the way nearly lost lili life by. hunger and starvation was named Piercs BelL Bell had been siDg hand with good success. On one night he caught as many as thirteen of the monster flub of. which the Oconee river abounds and the thirteen aggregated pounds seventeen hundred and thirty seven. DEER HUNTING IN TWIOGS. he Deer killed by II 11 ow With II Shoxr by" KI road lUnd the Haw kiniulle News Mr John Daly. Jr. writes the particulars of the killing of a deer near Buzzard oost in Twirgs counu one day last week under very singular circumstances. Mr.

Dal 3 the foreman of gang No on the Last Tennessee rginia and Georgia railruad. On Tuesday of last week Mr. alj had his gang at work on the railroad. A party of hunters n. about JefleraonMlle were deer hunting the same in what i xiiown as Tarycrs swamp.

The dogs started a deer which left the swamp and took its course towards the railroad. Mr Dal discovered the deer and decided that it was coming directly toward his gang. He told tl neroes to get Lack in the bushes and told them to kill the deer with their shovels if it came near enough to them. The dogs ere it least a quarter of a mile away. The deer carne right down the ditch and the first negro it came to struck at it with' his shovel bteaking both of its hind legs.

One of the hunters was near enough to hear the deer cry when it was caught by the railroad gang. He carne up anti claimed the deer according to the laws of hunting as he stated. Mr. Dally at once gave up the game after a promise that he and his gang should have a share but up to last accounts the Jefferson ville hunters had not divided. think Mr.

Day was entitled to some of that venison and we le here that if the uestion were left to a committee of old hunters such as Major eke Vimberly of Houston Thiletus Do ter of Vti cos and Dr. Clark of Texas. they would decide that the onville hunters di 1 not act enerously toward MI. Dal and gang No. A Turkey Hunters Adventure in Wll ox from the HtlwtinsiIle yews.

I I iuthe while hunting turkeys in Wil- cox CliUnty had a strange adventure which is worth prmtf if He left home before daybreak and just a it was light enought to see an obje ta few yards he entered the swamp where he knew the turkeys had a roosting place. He seated himself at the root of a large tree. and in a few minutes De saw the of turkeys playing on the ground as they usually do when they leave their roost. Mr. Dutlie laid his gun across a small log and began taking sight when he noticed that the log either moved or his gun slipped.

He readjusted the gun' across the log and again took aim when the log again moved. This excited him and he forgot the turkeys and began to wonder what could be the matter. On further investigation he was almost paral zed with fear at finding that what he supposed was a log on which he lad rested his gun was nothing more than a huge gopher snake. The reptile was about thirt eieht feet long in the imagination of Durhe and although the gopher snake was never known to attacks a man with. out bein wounded or disturbed Mr.

Dufhe thought it best to leave the swamp and he did SQ shall probably hear something more from this monster reptile. Strange Case in Tatnall Court From the- ifinesrille Gazette. There was one strange case brought before the court which seemed to puzzle both bench and bar. A negro. who was deaf and dumb was auaignedfor for vagrancy.

He was illiterate and knew nothing of the deaf and dumb alphabet and could oni be imperfectly under- Etood by signs There was no wa by which the nature of the offense charged could be communicated to him. I Under our law could a man be convicted of a crime without a chance to defend himself And et there is no doubt but what this route is a perfect nui sauce to the Community. An effort was made under the direction of the judge to get some mats who would take care of him to go on his bond and take him out of jail but we do not know with what Ohosti Walking Around. From the Sumter Republican. Monday night about nine o'clock a young married lad was passing the cemeter with a colored woman as guard going from her lioi le to a.

neighbors when she heard a ter. rible groan from among' the graves. Both the women were badi scared when the breeze swayed the evergreens around the towering- monuments and revealed their white forms in the moonlight. they took them for ghosts. and ran for dear life near terrified to death.

After the young lad got to the house she was spell bound for it was fully ten minutes before she could tell that a lot of ghosts were promenading in the cemetery. A Narrow Escape. From the Dooly Vindicator. A few days since while Mr. Penny our efficient clerk of the superior court was returning from a squirrel hunt in the river swamp near Drayton about dust he stepped astride a huge rattlesnake his foot just miss ing it Mr.

Penny quickly dispatched him. His snakeship was five or six feet in length and sported thirteen rattles which were am. putated and brought home as a memento of the event. Moral Is ever go in a swamp without a sufficient quantity of snake poison. The Bottle la the Closet.

Some sly old fellows have a habit of keeping their brandy bottle under lock and key where nobody but themselves can get at it. The think nobody knows how often they go to it but a red nose sometimes tells the tale louder than words can speak it. The bottle in the closet if it contain brandy is very mischievous.
