Rev. Ford McRee was made secretary for this trial. As Blanton is not here after being summoned to appear the evidence will be brought out and as it is all against him. he will be publicly expelled from not only the ministry but from church membership. Rev.

Julius Magath Hebrew missionary and professor in Emory college says that the work among tine Hebrews is quite encouraJ- mg. lie has kept up connection with all the missionary ork of the world. He has baptized one Hebrew convent this year. Bishop J. S.

Key called the class to be received into fun connection before him and asked them the disciplinary questions. Are you in debt so as to embarrass yon They answered no. He here urged them never to go in debt because it not only involves him but his successors in the pastorate for twenty years. He read them the rules laid down for the guidance of their lives which he ably commented upon. These are very wise and will make any of them successful.

He urged that they devote themselves to the ministry of the word and prayer. They must in all things live to the glory of God. Methodism is a military religious movement and the preachers. must obey those in authority under God. They must diligently instruct the children.

These obligations last till God calls them home. The children are the seed corn of the church. He insisted on real pastoral visiting from house to house as the shepherd of the people. This is not social visiting but that which will lead the people to Christ. You ought to study these cases like a wise physician so as to properly prescribe for them.

God will give power in this work by prayer as He does for the pulpit. He insisted. on fasting and prayer by preacher and people especially when there era peat needs felt by th preacher. jLnyman could do these W1p buthav roa. Do you expect to be made perfect in love in this life Here this church differs front all others. Some put after purgatory some after death but the Methodist church teaches that Christian- may be made perfect in love in this life and that after conversion. He here quoted from John Wesley and the action of the general conference and bishops. Are you. pressing on towards it Tine sooner possessed.

God will give great power. Are you resolved to dot ote yourselvesM- wholly to God and His works Tnls is the most important question of all. Are you willing to devote yourselves wholly to God turning back upon the world sod its ambitions You must be willing to go to Cali fornia or anyn here and to do hard work and to suffer in any place for Christ. You must be ready to die to self and all but God. Wonderful privilege to work for God one which the angels would rejoice to take.

The preach- ers answered. Ye by the help of God. The conference then voted to take the following' mint full connection R. Frank Eakes Augustus A. Tilly Arthur B.

Pope John S. Askew John F. Davis. The' bishops and many preachers then gave them ths right hand of fellowship while ltev. H.

H. Parks raised the old war song. Am I a Soldier of the Cross0" which was grandiysung by these men of God who have fought and suffered for Christ's sake. They have fought but want to struggle oil till Christ calls them home. Friends and districts gave eleven elegant Bibles to the nine preachers going out and the two already gone.

These are to be Kino in tine name of tine bishop and secretary of. the conference The funds of the joint board of finance were then distrouted to the claimants. Title snakes many worked men and widows and orphans happy. Rev. J.

Owens. wino was absent on account of the slokuess of his daughter returned and passed a satisfactory examination before the committee and was elected an elder. Rev. John H. Johnson was elected So local elder.

A singular mistake was made in the report of the conference by some outer reporter. He stated that Dr. J. W. Roberts late pastor.

of Gainesville was dead. which is a big mistake as all his friends know. It is to be moped that the reporters mistake did no cause any one to wnte an obituary of this living man. He has been made supernumerary till his throat and nervous system improve. Rev.

Dr. Sullies of Centenary college Tennessee. and Dr. Cadesman Pope. of Mill- ersurg college Kentucky were introduced and welcomed by their numerous friends the latter having years ago been a member of this conference.

At 3 o'clock Rev. W. D. Anderson D. of the First church of Atlanta preached a man- terlysermou At night the anniversary of the missionary society was held with Dr.

W. F. Glenn in the chair. Tine report of the secretary Rev. V.

F. Robisonn was read indicating tine progress particularly at St. Johns Atlanta and Broad street Augusts also happy results at Young Harris institute and the Rheiubart Normal school. The. Tress- urer Hon.

W. A. Heurphill being necessarily sway left his report in the hands of H. J. Adams.

The report means much work but done with great pleasure said a letter of the treasure to the conference. The total for foreign missions in which is included all the work in the we and border confers nees as well as in heathen lands was 18003 40 this upon an assessment of 822000 On ly one district overpaid the assessments the south Atlanta which paid 82842 on 2054 assessed. The total for conference missions up to the time of tine report was J8f JO on an assessment of 59501. 1 his pays only ninths of tine salaries of these poor boys. It is a shame for them to have to labor upon their hard works living very hard.

and then not to have enough to live on. Tints will probably be rectified before the conference is over. The. south At- lasts district bore the banner again in being the only one that overpaid the assessment being yi over the mark. The Woman's Missionary Society reported through Treasurer Hewplnill a total for the year ending October I lSJl of 681830 tine Oxford district here carrying the flag.

Bishop A. G. Ilaygood then entertained the conference for nearly an hour with an address. He lened the work of tine church since the conference met here before seventeen years ago. Two mission an es in China then now a conference there another in Japan till another in Brazil with three in Mexico numbering 100 preachers and with a mission just started in Venezuela.

in South From two to two hundred missionary workers in seventeen years is a tremendous leap. 1 he church has grown apace for in 1865 bereft of a half million coored members impoverished and disorganized by the war almost ground to powder by the enemy they have preached the gospel and God has raised her numbers from 440000 to lJOOOOO This is tine greatest proportional gain ever made by any church anti still the grows twice as fast relatively as the population of the United States. Truly we not labored in vain at home or abroad for Gods is glory in the midst of her. He then spoke of the home missions. He described the beginning of St.

Paul's church in Atlanta under the trees the old fair ground. Then old Evans's chapel now Walker street was built. Then in the same year Payne's church was started and he reviewed what house missions had done in Atlanta. Put your mousy where it will grow in heavenly coin and see to it that the home missions is well as foreign are pressed forward. Dr.

IL C. Morsiso missionary secretary deeply interested the audience with a wore thorough knowledge of the work of the church in foreign fields. The missionary debt. at the rte of Its present decrease will llibe about gone by My said that not a week ago I gentleman wet him on the train and agreed to pay 750 to the rapport of a single missionary.
