From the time it was made on up to the killing of Kicks they the sisters ad given him a great deal of- trouble and annoyance so much of it that he had be- come somewhat irritable on the snbject A few mornings before the homicide the. deceased and his wife tailed at prisoners ate the wife continued on In the house nd demanded tine books in which were ept the business transactions of the administration.

She did this said he in a very abrupt excited manner and I replied her to go to 11. When near Warner wile he saw Ricks approaching him in the road. As ley drew near to each other prison.

Bides replied stop you what was that you said to my ife the other day Prisoner replied that lehad told her to go to 1L" Yes you and I will kill you forit replied cks and made an emit to insert his hand his pocket. At this instant prisoner lowered his gun and fired. Ricks made a ep or two forward as though trying to come at him and he struck him twice with ie un barrel.

whereupon he fell to the ground lrIsouratated further hat ne regretted thi nijf srinn circumstance ore than he did intthat it was entirely uotyoidsbie and purely an act of sell- defense. The prosecution was represented by Mr. ehin of Senois the defense by Colonel eavy of Greenville. Both of these gen- emen were very untiring In their efforts nd handled the case in a skillful manner winding up with speeches that would not have disgraced the oar of any court A bout half an hour after the conclusion the speeches the court gave its decision which was manslaughter and bound the prisoiier lover under a bond of 500. which he had no trouble in giving.

Without iscnssing the points I will add hat this verdict was a surprise to nine- tenths of the citizens who have attended IB trial Thus ended a trial that has been tended with at least one unusual. and pe- uliar feature. All the animosity bitter- ess and hatred that the trial has developed as proceeded from the immediate relatives the prisoner. It is to be feared that they have been actuated more. by- prejudi can and hatred engendered in a family oarrel than by a sense that law or justice as been greatly violated.

Asanjevidence it. I will relate a little circumstance that took place when Colonel Peavy- was jnaking is concluding speech Mr. John Burton brother to the prisoner rose up in the court- room and screamed out at the top of his oice addressing the prisoner You are a murderer you killed myubroth- law you are a rascal you heated me my mother and sister out of a lome. Apothecaries are very angry at the charges of exorbitant prices for quinine made by Fart of Powers Weightman and say that If he knew of any druggist celling cinchonida the cheap- er alkaloid for qulzla it was his duty promptly to expose them. As for prices Instead of three cents a grain as Farr said they answer through a committee it is not usual nor customary among retail druggists of. this city to charge more than one and a half and certainly ot over two cents per grain for quinine at this present time. As wholesale rates of uinine Are now 350 per ounce avoirdu- oliS each ounce containing 437 grains IB wholesale price per grain will readily be seen to be about three-quarters of a cent nd the profit tm. selling at one and a alf to two cents will certainly leave a margin very far below the three orfourhun- red per cent as asserted.
