RABBI Dr. Gries Sides witl to Cleveland. O. December Robert Ingersoll his latest lecture The Foundation of Faith and the prayers offered for the noted agnostic by the Christian Endeavor- ers on Thanksgiving were the theme dls. cussed Jay Rabbi Gries of the Wilson Ave- nue temple.

In his dlscourci Saturday. The rabbis arralg1ment of Ingersoll was dif. terent from that generally heard. Rabbi Gries at the outset many of Ingersoll's contentions. He said that he does not believe that the Bible Is-an in spired book.

He said You may think it strange that I should attempt to answer Mr. Ingersoll. Year after year the Christian ministers have endeavored to answer IngersolTs arguments and you may ask why then. shall I attempt to do so. When Inpersoll contends that the Bible Is not an inspired book.

reformed Judaism and liberal Christianity agree with him. I rejoice in his upright. life. He has been a pure father and has led a beautiful family life. But regret.

to say that he Is unfair In debate. I am beginning to believe there are many things in the Bible' that are untrue. There are blunders arid there falsehoods but this does not de stroy U1e whole work. Bob Should Study Hebrew. Ingersoll Is not an original searcher.

He gets all his information rom the Bible critics. He cannot read a word of Hebrew and he knows nothing of the original manuscripts. He accepts their criticism yet does not follow them to their' logical conclusion. I want to say further that It there Is anything that Justifies Ingersoll. It Is Tal-- maglsm.

Here are two men that are ad dressing the largest assemblages of men in the country. Talmage in the face of every evidence still maintains that the Blbla is an Inspired book. and by so' doing he violates-every known. law of- reason. He Jg as much a character as Ingersoll one of religion the other of lrreUgIon.

There Is not muchuse In praying Jor such nen as Jngersoll as we told some of ourChris tlan Endeavorers did on Thanksghrtngr. Im them asking God to do what Is test with Ingersoll Just as If He will" not do that anyway 1 am not opposed to this prayer as are. other ministers who rlU" Cl8e It because tney think that its' failure will only be used as an argument by this same Ingersoa. I am Opposed to It because I do notjjelleve In the efficacy of It. I know that such men as Mr.

Moody and Sara Jones make believe that their prayers are answered but If they are. I aia cer tain that they' are the. only persons that are so favored. God. Is' not moved by prayers and ceremonies.

That Is not true religion. True religion Is In the uplifting or man and placing him nearer to God Rabbi Gries will continue his discourse Sunday The Wilson Avenue temple Is. the most liberal Hebrew place of wor ship In town and the members are among the richest Jews to Cleveland JS MILOBDSALIcEIGHT 4 i Sholto Douglas a tPeer of Jthe ealm.
