THK CABLE RATE WAR. What the Two Telegraph Managers Rave to Say About the Struggle. How is the cable rite war That question was asked tail night by a CONSTITUTION reporter and WM answered as follows by Manager On of the Southern Telegraph company There is nothing new about the rite war. Before the Bennett commercial cable was put in the rate was sixty cents a word. This cable started off by putting the rats down to forty cents a word and hu held to that figure.

The other cable companies have cut the rate to twelve cents which is less than the cost. The welve cents ratecannotibe mathtained permanently andjis a desperate thrust at the commercial cables. The commercial cable has put on a. rite of twenty-five cents a. word and assures its patrons.

that it will keep that I pexnsaneat rate. and if at any time the cable hu to return to a higher figure thin the eli te the difference between twelve and twenty-five cents per word will be returned to such I pay the rite now existing. The Ms Bennett company is well able to take cue of itself and is exceedingly popular in New York. Its patron are standing by it nobly. Manager J.

M. Stephens of the Western Union said hl answert a querry I knew nothing about the matter further than that I received instructions to put on a twerve cent rate which I have done.
