Orlando Sentinel: PRODUCT: OS DESK: SPT DATE: 12-15-2005 EDITION: FLA ZONE: FLA PAGE: D7.0 DEADLINE: 21.0 OP: pdowd COMPOSETIME: 23.27 CMYK Orlando Sentinel THURSDAY, DECEMBER 1 5, 2005 D7 COLLEGE FOOTBALL Holidays making prices higher GatOrS I The Beat Ingram showing great versatility They call him "C.I", initials that seem more appropriate for prime-time television than the future of Florida's offense. But in both the short and long term, reserve freshman QB Cornelius Ingram figures to play a much larger role than during his first year in the program. With eventual transfer Josh Portis not practicing with the team and unlikely to join it in Tampa for the Outback Bowl, Ingram and WR Gavin Dickey will see time at quarterback during practice this month. But since regular season's end, Ingram has also worked as what Coach Urban Meyer called a "big receivertight end." It's similar to the spot Tate Casey played most of the jogged on the sidelines at practice Tuesday, fueling a thought that he could return for the Outback Bowl. "The trainers say there's a good chance he'll be ready," Meyer said.

Brown missed the South Carolina and Florida State games after breaking his right leg returning a punt against Vanderbilt on Nov. 5 Etc. Tuesday, Meyer declined to comment on Portis' choice to leave. "I'd rather talk about the bowl game," he said. "At some point I'll say something about For the second time since its inception in 1986, the SEC All-Freshman team failed to include a Florida player.

The other Gator-less team came in 2001. DAVE CURTIS OF THE SENTINEL STAFF year. At Tuesday's practice, Ingram spent time under center and outside. "We had him do both," Meyer said after Tuesday's light practice. "He was out there running routes.

Obviously, he wasn't throwing to himself, but he was running around a lot." The changes cap a crazy year for Ingram, who in January played as a backup guard on the basketball team. In November, Ingram hinted that he was unsure of his role at Florida, and coaches considered a position switch, possibly to safety. But after bowl preparation, Ingram seems bound for another place in the offense. And that's a prospect that excites his head coach. Brown back at practice Injured CB Vernell Brown receiver Brandon Marshall said.

'This isn't fun." Only a handful of players will have relatives on hand. A quick count this week showed family members of Marshall, Josh Sit-ton, Dominic Ignelzi, Kyle Smith and Keith Shologan are planning to fly out. Steven Moff ett said a couple of his friends from Winter Park High School are living in Hawaii and will make the game. Paul Carrington asked his parents whether they'd go and heard this: "We can have Christmas or we can go to Hawaii." Carrington told them to trim their tree and enjoy the game on TV. Which might be better than some fans can do.

Booster Dan Easter, who lives in Minnesota and flies to Orlando a couple times a year for games, said in an e-mail he had his wife convinced to spend New Year's Eve in Memphis, site of the Dec. 3 1 Liberty Bowl. The Knights would have played in the Liberty had they beaten Tulsa in the C-USA Championship Game earlier this month. Alas, Tulsa won. It's going to Memphis.

Easter hopes to watch the Knights on ESPN, but he might have to be cagey about it. He said his wife traditionally forbids television viewing on Christmas Eve. DePascale, though, is covered. He plans to be in Atlanta with his daughter and other family members. Before he committed to the trip, he asked a crucial question.

"I made absolutely certain that they're not planning anything else on Christmas Eve," he said. 'We're not going out looking at Christmas lights." Sentinel correspondent Andy Vasquez contributed to this report. Alan Schmadtke can be reached at aschmadtkeorlandosentinel.com. UCF FROM 1 Christmastime is prime time in Hawaii. Hotels in Honolulu range from 1 50 a night, and rates go above $200 as the bowl game draws near.

The UCF Alumni Association is offering an assortment of package deals forvarious-sized groups. Adult costs with airfare and $2,520. With no airfare, the costs run between $865 and 1 ,540. At least 45 fans have signed up, UCF Alumni Association Executive Director Tom Messina said. He is unsure how many fans have made other plans.

"I was hoping to keep it under $2,500, but with all the tours we're thinking about, it's adding up pretty fast," said UCF fan Brian Balzer, who settled on flying with the alumni group. Balzer is 37 and single perfect for an expensive island vacation on short notice. "It's still pricey, but the fact that it's our first bowl game makes a difference," he said. "If it wasn't our first, I don't think I'd be going. But I definitely wanted to be there for the first one." StanTribble, an eight-year season-ticket holder from Port St.

John, is among a small group of friends that decided UCF-Nevada was a game they couldn't miss no matter the price. Tribble, though, took a bit of time coming to that conclusion. He was miffed the Knights were bypassed by the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, a decision that freed UCF to be picked for a Hawaiian holiday. GMAC officials preferred UTEP and quarterback Jordan Palmer to play Toledo instead of UCF. "Then I thought when you put it into perspective, knowing where we are and where we came from, how can you complain?" Tribble said.

"Now I get to go scuba diving overthe holidays. Hawaii Bowl Executive Director Jim Donovan said any team his bowl brings over from the mainland customarily brings 500 people. People, as in players, coaches, families, cheerleaders, support folks and oh, yeah fans. UCF's official travel party is 253, Athletic Director Steve Orsi-nisaid. While the Knights attracted the most student support they ever have, with 7,000 to 12,000 at all five games in Orlando this year, students aren't expected in the stands Dec.

24. "I'm sure that a couple of truly dedicated Knights will make it there, but that's the downfall. A lot of us can't," said Felisha Garcia, a UCF sophomore. "I would have gone if it was closer." Added UCF senior Georgette Acquaah-Harrison: "I wish I had the funds to go I know about 50 people that were planning to take a road trip if the game were closer." Messina has heard it more than once the past couple weeks "It is a shame for the fans that our first bowl game, the game we always wanted to get to, is in Hawaii," he said. "But at the same time, it's an unbelievable reward forthe players.

I knowthey're thrilled about this." At least they will be. After a week off for finals, the Knights resumed practice on Monday. Coach George O'Leary conducted the most physically demanding workouts the Knights have had since the season started. O'Leary let players know in no uncertain terms: Don't think about Hawaii and don't talk about Hawaii until they get to Hawaii.
