The tragedy occurred in a beer saloon at the corner of Decatnr street and the Boulevard.

Dodd WM a clerk In the saloon and the fatal quarrel occurred over a quart of beer which he had sold to Cbusewood. Chotewood wanted to fire some of the beer to a minor and Dodd refused to furnish a glass for the boy to drink out of. Some words followed. Chosewood threw tile contents of the beer measure at Dodd who without a word of warning shot him through the breast. Voluntary manslaughter was the finding of the coroners jury.

Dodd was standing on one side of the counter and Chosewood on the other only II. few between them when the fatal bullet wau fired. Uhoewood lived about fifteen minutes alter being shot. Dodd made good his escape in the confusion following the affair and up to the present has not been captured. WHO THE us ABE.

Both men are white. and up to the tragedy both have borne good reputations. James Chusewood the man who was shot was married his tragic death casting gloom over au humble but happy home. lie was a young man and in the community in which he lives has always born the reputation of a quiet industrious law-abiding citi- zen. For some time past he has been engaged in seilitAg jewelry over the country.

In his employ he has had a young man named Richard Johnson. who accompanied him on all hit trips assisting him in tile business. W. L. Dodd the man who did the killing has boon clerking in ongor' Mr.

lie is married and hits several children. The men were good friends and so far as has been developed there has been no quarrel standing between them. Only a few moments before the tragedy they had drank beer together end the several witnesses to the affair testified that they believed the two men were only indulging in friendly railery. DETAILS OF TUB Chosewood and Johnson went into the saloon about halfpast 11 o'clock and sat down to one of the tables in the roosts. Chosewoosi ordered two glasses of beer and two plates of soup.

These were served after which Chosewood ordered a quart of beer. When this was served only one glass was brought. This was tilled. and Johnson emptied it Chosewood in the meantime calling on Dodd to bring another glass and come around himself to drink with him. Dodd took a glass in his hand and went to the table where Chosewood and Johnson were seated.

Chosewood filled both glasses from the quart measure and lie and Dodd drank the contents. Alter drinking his beer Dodd took his glass Vid went back to the bar. Chosewood filled the remaining glass and i nded it to young Johnson who began rinking the beer. BXGISXIXO or THE QUARREL. White he was doing so Dodd saw him and leaving the counter walked up to Johnson's side and took the glass from him.

Chosewood expostulated with him about the glass stating that unless he gave Johnson one to drink the Balance of the beer out of he Chosewood would throw it in his face. Dodd remarked that if he did it would be lie last he'd ever throw at the same time going behind the bar and standing with his lands below the counter. Chosewood insisted upon Johnson having a glass but Dodd refused to give him one stating that he did not want minors to drink in that place because it was against the law. Chosewood again threatened to throw the beer in Dodd's face and did splash a little toward him. The beer did not touch Dodd but ell noon the floor.

There were a number of other people in the toloon at the time one man standing close enough to Chosowood to touch his arm but 11 thought that Chosewood and Dodd were in Inn. After a moment or two Chosewood again asked for a glass and Dodd still refusing he remarked that the next time he'd throw the beer on Dodd sure enough. All right. said Jioud throw it if you want to. The words were hardly out of isle mouth before the contents of the beer measure were splashed against the front of his apron.

Almost at the same instant lid raised ft pistol from below the counter and aiming it at Chosewood pulled the trigger before anybody in the saloon had an idea that a serious difficulty was brewing. THE BULLET entered Chosewoods breast near the heart lodging in his Ihle. Chosewood turned toward the door and after taking a. few steps fell to the floor Physicians were sent for but he died in about fifteen minutes. Dodd grabbed his coat and hat and escaped by the back way.

The police have been search. itig for him diligently but as yet have not effected his arrest. Chosewoods body was taken to Patterson's undertaking establishment where an inquest was held. The facts brought out were substantially as stated above. INVESTIGATED BY THE COltOfER Mr.

G. L. Bradley brother to J. M. Bradley who wits killed some time ago by Uzborn was foreman of the coroner' Jury.

Eight of the jurors Were in favor of aVer- diet of voluntary manslaughter and four in favor of a verdict or murder. Only lour witnesses were brought before the inquest. They were all in the saloon when the shooting occurred. and all gave substantially the saute version. Madison McCarthy a workman attheTwv- bridge furniture factory was the first wit- uses.

He testified that when he threw the beer at Dodd Chosewood had in his hand a pepper sauce bottle. He didn't know whether he had taken the bottle up to use as a weapon or not and was not positive that he grabbed the bottle until alter lie wits shot. The witness thought Dodd refused to give the glass to Chosewood because he. did not want Johnson who was a minor to rtrmk in the saloon. W.

Tuo bridesmaids all wore exquisitely made i gowns of white Ctuua silk faille crepe de thins i and mousselin de sole respectively made with trains and carried large bouquets of white chrysanthemums and maiden hair urn tied with long bows of white ribbon. The hence was very prettily decorated and delightful refreshments were served. Mr. sad Mrs. Montgomery left at 11 o'clock for a tour through the principal western cities and will be gone a week or ten days. On their return they will be at home to their friends at Sire Fos on PlIehtree They were the recipients of many elegant presents and the heartiest of congratulations.

Notable among the presents was a. handsome one from the Hell house boys. Mrs. Montgomery is the daughter of Mr. Thomas J.

lIlghtower one of Atlanta's mot prominent and highly respected citizens. She hat very many enthusiastic friends and admirers and has alwjys been exceedingly popular in Atlanta society. Mr. Montgomery is one of the most prominent and successful young business men of the south and Is highly regarded by all who know him. lie is moreover one of the molt popular men in Atlanta society.
