The board's deadline forccrtifvine Ross Perot in the April 7 Wisconsin primary may never be known, but backers of the Texas billionaire say Royal baby Princess Yasmin, daughter-in-law of the late former Shah of Iran Reza Pahlavl, looks at her daughter Princess Noor, who was born in Washington, D.G, April 3. The hospital room was symbolically declared a part of Iran during the birth because the child could not be born on Iranian territory. (APLascrPhoto) TTVTT MADISON (AP) Legislation that would require a teen-ager get a parent, adult relative or judge to consent before she has an abortion is being opposed by Wisconsin's largest pro-life group. Barbara Lyons, executive director of Wisconsin Right to Life said the group hoped for a veto because of changes made by the Legislature in approving the measure after four years of dispute on the issue.

She said the group opposes provisions that would: Allow an adult relative over age 25 to give the required consent to an abortion, which, Lyons said, could permit the relative to "go behind a parent's back" and approve Allow ordained members of the clergy to file a Circuit Court pcu-' tion seeking a judge's consent for a girl who wants an abortion, an idea that Lyons said was untested, with uncertain results. Shea said votes for Perot or any other candidate would go uncounted if the voter marked "Independent" behind the name. "Independent votes don't count because the primary is to help the Democratic and Republican panics determine national convention delegate strength for the various candidates," she said.

Schultz said Perot's Wisconsin organization is trying to raise money for a mailing campaign and to pay for telephone bills. Cindy Schultz of Mequon, Wisconsin campaign director for Perot, said she was disappointed that an accurate tally of the Perot vote will not be recorded because not all votes for write-in candidates are credited to the individuals.

"Even though the total vote may never be known, it was a good drill for us," Schultz said Monday. "We have people working in counties throughout the state." She said Perot has indicated he will announce soon whether he will make a run for the White House this fall. His organization organization anticipates no trouble in obtaining the necessary 2,000 signatures to get his name on the Wisconsin ballot, Schultz said. Gail Shea of the State Elections Board said votes cast for many individuals who received only a handful of votes at the precinct level would likely be listed among those who received a "scattering" of votes. Whether such votes are credited to the individual is up to the local municipality and later up to the county when the votes are tallied, said Shea, the board's campaign finance and elections administrator.

Mergers seen at UW campuses JANES VILLE (AP) The University of Wisconsin's budget squeeze may close or merge some campuses, even with additional money from tuition increases, a Board of Regents member says. "There may be a need to consolidate River Falls, Stout and Eau Claire. I wonder if we can afford all three?" George Steil said. The UW-Superior campus serves a relatively small number of students and is located near Duluth, where Wisconsin students can attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth on a reciprocal tuition basis, he said. Steil, a Janesville lawyer, made the comments this week to civic groups, saying he would support a substantial increase in tuition at campuses throughout the system.

He criticized the Legislature for deleting $4.9 million from the UW System's supply and equipment budget "We have outstanding professors using their own money for supplies," Steil said. Bob Holt, a professor of music at UW-Rock Center, said he had to spend $300 for software so students could use computers to compose music. "We don't have enough money to keep the computer lab open," Rock Center dean Jane Crisler said. Steil urged the Rock County campus to add community services and have and business leaders assist it in becoming a focal point of the community. Limitations are tied to the center's budget, Crisler said.

"We are given an allocation to subsidize a certain amount of students. If we register more, we are losing money," she said. Steil said the $2.2 billion UW System budget has to be viewed in tandem with increasing demands for state funding in other areas. "By the year 2000, we will have to have prisons for 15,000 inmates. We have to handle the increase in crime in courts with inadequate funding.

And the cost of welfare is overwhelming," he said. State trucker killed BIG CEDAR, Okla. (AP) A Wisconsin truck driver died when his tractor-trailer struck a concrete barrier and overturned next to a LeFlore County highway, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says. Christopher Kissel, 33, of Milwaukee was killed in Tuesday's accident on U.S. 259 south of Big Cedar in southeastern Oklahoma.

Kissel was pinned more than an hour, troopers said. Earliest shavers Men began shaving during the Ice Age to combat lice breeding in unkempt hair, according to historians.
