The advice is always to keep weight down, but a reduction in sugar intake is never mentioned. I don't understand this. In this The purpose of the diet is to keep weight down to normal. Doing that through a balanced diet eliminates the danger of ingesting too many carbohydrates (starches). Too many carbohydrates as from pies, cakes, etc.) would mean that something is being sacrificed, and that is usually protein. One can only eat so much food, after all.

So you are not off the track. Some authorities advise total elimination of refined sugar, the kind you get from the sugar bowl and which contains what are called "empty" calories. Each day the code letters are ainemu. CRYPTOQUOTES Dear Dr. Ruble: Please explain the difference between primary amenorrhea and secondary amenorrhea. My doctor says I have the primary kind. G.W.

Amenorrhea is the absence of menstruation. When the doctor says yours is primary he just means that you never have menstruated. The other kind, secondary amenorrhea, means that a woman who had established her menstruation had it stop because of some secondary problem. The causes of primary amenorrhea are many. Some are related to an abnormality in the uterus, cithers to faulty hormone production, a glandular problem.

The uterus may have developed abnormally or the ovaries or pituitary gland may be defective. That does not always mean the problem originated at birth, though. Tumors of the ovaries or of the other glands may have developed in the early pre-pubertal years. Secondary amenorrhea is caused by the development of a disease of the same glands after a woman's menstruation has begun. Such things as severe and sudden weight loss, anemia, diabetes, overactive thyroid, fear, tension, or use of birth control pills may cause absence of menstruation of the secondary type.

Anything that inhibits established menstruation falls into that category. Dear Dr. Ruble: I am addicted to Excedrin. I am almost positive about it. Doctors have found I have an ulcer.

I am scared to tell my personal doctor about this, but I have a hunch this is what caused the ulcer. He always asks if I'm taking aspirins. I say no. What can I do to overcome this addiction? P.L. How much of the product are you taking? Your doctor is talking about aspirin and you are talking about a product that contains aspirin.

Excedrin is a combination of drugs containing aspirin and caffeine. Both of those ingredients should be avoided by people who have ulcers. If you have headaches there are substitutes (such as acetominophen) that are less irritating to the stomach. Aspirin in any form is not addictive. Other terms such as "habit" are more appropriate.

Another condition worth investigating is called "pica." 1 WHILE I FIND Lt I I TPJ I LJ TPJ rON THEY WENT TO CLEVELAND JJ IT'S OK.AY.'- ENTER, TODAYr-'AND, WITH ALL WELL-I PRINCESS THESE BURGLARIES, -I DONT Y'KNOW -C THINK I OUGHT TXfllli RKJJB MP BJlAJn Yesterday's Cryptoquote: THERE I ONE TH iinnm riru DtrucnW HAS ABSOLU it. Does a woman have to have had a baby before it can be done? J.D.

Robert neuiv'" The IUD intrauterine device for birth control) is usually implanted in the uterus at the end of a menstrual perios or after delivery. A woman would not want one installed unless she was sure she was not pregnant. The installation is easier for the woman who has gone through childbirth, but it is not a requirement by any means. MEN and WOMEN by Caiman It's not difficult to get a conversation started about what has come to be known as 'The Good Old Days." While there are various stages of disagreement as to just how "good" those days were, it is amusing to reflect on what a decade of change has done for some of country music's stars: Ten years ago, Kenny Rogers and Dottle West were just singers. Today they're country music's hottest duo on record.

John Conlee was a complete unknown to record buyers in 1969. Today he is adding to a string of hits like 'The Backside of Willie Nelson, who couldn't make it in Nashville, moved i to Austin and started his own brand of music. Now hes making it everywhere. Some just get hooked on the taste.

This very likely is what happened to you. With pica there is often a nutritional deficiency in the background. Tell your doctor about the whole business. There is nothing wrong with these products when they are used sensibly by patients who have no ulcer. For some YAZOO CITY NEW LOCATION-K MART PL (Next to Plaza Cinema) Dr.
