Minnie Pearl gets into cable Grand Ole Opry comedian Minnie Pearl says she's taken to watching cable television and isn't always thrilled by what she sees, especially when she's watching herself. "It has what you might call, extended my TV world," said the 74-year-old star, whose real name is Sarah Cannon and is known for her flowered hat with its dangling price tag. "I doubt we would have PEARL made the move had I not started working on Nashville Now, which is on The Nashville Network," she wrote in her regular column in the Nashville Banner. "It has been extremely embarrassing for me to watch myself. 'Why did I do or say I ask myself again and again.

My appearance bugs me, too," she said. "I keep hoping to look different on a live concert stage in costume, with the help of makeup professionals and soft lighting." Stooges beat the Barrymores The Three Stooges beat the Barrymores in a popularity contest at Movieland Wax Museum, and visitors also are asking to see Don Johnson and Michael J. Fox done in wax. Woman shouldn't blame self for accident Dear Ann Landers: In a recent column you said, "No one is responsible for anyone's life but his own." That line made me feel better but I'm still loaded with guilt. Here is my story: My husband and I were returning from a vacation in Florida. I was driving.

I didn't see the stop sign and chose the ditch rather than a head-on collision. "Rob" was killed. I walked away with a few minor bruises. I feel responsible for my husband's death and have contemplated suicide because I believe I don't deserve to live. Every night I review ways to do it, but conies the dawn and I realize I don't have the courage.

I am a nut about seat belts and refuse to start the car until the person next to me is buckled up. This time I didn't even mention it to Rob for some mysterious reason. When the police officer arrived I heard him say, "The woman had her seat belt buckled. Too bad the man didn't." Whenever any driving was to be done I was always the one who did it even with friends because I was considered "the best driver." I have been driving for 50 years and never had an accident until this one. I Ann Landers Syndicated columnist feel as if I have killed my husband and am asking you to tell me how I can go on.

Please give me some of your wisdom. I need it. M.P. in Providence, R.I. Dear R.I.: You didn't kill your husband.

You had an accident and he died. I realize that telling you this is not going to solve your problem. You need counseling preferably from a member of the clergy. Today most clergypersons are well- trained in grief therapy. Let me hear from you when you read this letter print.

Please tell me you are going to follow my instructions. We will both feel better. Dear Ann Landers: "Bridgeport Reader" is justified in her outrage that men on New York subways and buses don't give their seats to the handicapped, elderly and pregnant. But why doesn't she put the blame where it belongs on the feminists? I was brought up in the old- fashioned, traditional way taught to give my seat to a woman, pregnant or not. After being called a male chauvinist pig a few times I began to rethink the code.

The feminists wanted equality for women? They got it. I'D stand up for a pregnant woman the day I see a woman stand up for a pregnant man. Sincerely Yours, J.R. in Granville, N.Y. Dear J.R.: Don't make any rash statements, sir.

Medical technology is performing such incredible feats these days, I wouldn't bet against anything. The woman in the next seat may be surrendering her seat to a pregnant fella 10 years from now. Dear Ann Landers: We've had Bootsie, a toy poodle, for eight years. Our first child was born two weeks ago. Bootsie has become melancholy since we brought "AT home from the hospital.

My husband says she's jealous. Can this be? If so, what can we do about it? K.C., Mo. Dear Mo: It can be. Pets, lite humans, become upset when they are displaced. Give Bootsie extra dollops of attention to reassure her.

She'll come around. To My Readers: Stressed out after the holidays? Again, I recommend Coping in the '80s: Eliminating Needless Stress Guilt, by Joel Wells. Never have I received so many raves on a recommendation. Write to the Thomas More Press, 223 West Erie, Chicago, III. 60610.
